Range Day with the 610 and Henry Single Shot

Post by BigAl52 » Mon Sep 11, 2023 6:59 pm

Haven’t felt to good last couple days but didn’t feel like sitting in the chair. Single Shot 5 shot got me going so off to the range with the 357 SS and S&W 610. Had a 9 mm with me to just putting some rounds thru it to break it in. First up was the SS and I had recently shot it with the MBC striker bullets 180 gr. I just put on Cyelee green dot reflex sight which I really like. My eye picks the green up better than the red. I also have been trying some RMR 147 gr bullets with the smiley face on the nose of the bullet. They shoot really good in my Ruger and they shot very good in the SS. First picture is the SS with the 180 gr Striker off the bags 50 yards. I sighted the SS in for the 147’s. The 180’s arent far off

I think I will leave the green dot alone. The 147’s shot about a 1/34 inch 5 shot group. 7 gr of unique for them and the 11.5 load of 2400 for the strikers. My next pic is the 610 on a popper at 15 yards 18 rounds of 2A warehouse 10 mm reman loads. The do pretty well and it gives me some brass. I must say this is about the best I have shot this 10 mm as its been a learning process for me.

Last pic is off the bag my reloads 8.2 grains of HS-6 180 gr Xtreme bullet. Pretty good group here. One shot outside was my second shot and I blew that one. Had a great time. Now loading up some Unique under the 180’s to see how they do. Ill put a link to the green dot in another post in case you might want to look at it

I'm hoping that made you feel better. Those are some good looking targets.

The recoil on the 610 isnt bad at all. Ive shot as many as 100 rounds thru it at a time and been fine. I will say though that after shooting it and then picking up my 9mm the 9 is more pleasant to shoot. I think I like what Coop said. Im in the 22 time of my life. Shooting those 147's out of the SS with 7 gr of Unique is like shooting a 22

Good shooting and heal up fast. Thanks for the link on that Cyelee sight. I like the features and the price but am unclear on the mounting. Does it come compatible with a picatinny or Weaver rail or is there another base to acquire?

Comes with a mount to go right on a picatinny rail. I have the EGW rail on my single shot. But I cut mine off where it hangs over the barrel taper by the rear sight. I really like the reflex dot sights on rifles. They look good and they work great for me. Have one on my PC Carbine to. Good friend of mine in Texas just bought one of the Cyelee sights for his PC and likes it alot.

Do you shoot your 610 DA or SA? That’s some great shooting on the popper.

Single action. Ive been trying to get some consistency with loads and testing loads so I have been shooting single action. At times I wonder if I should have bought the 6.5 inch barrel model but it was a big gun. Shooting this 4 inch barrel model has been a challenge. Besides if I wanted to carry it in the woods for a bear gun it would be alot lighter.
