Aint nothin wrong with the Thompson Center Black Powder rifles. I owned a few of those myself. Matter of fact one of the best BP shooters I have ever had is a TC with one of there 1 in 66 roundball barrels. I bet as a gun manufacturer you would be hard pressed to find any company that has brought more shooters to shooting black powder than Thompson Center

I agree, Al. I haven't done a lot of traditional black powder shooting, but some of it was with a TC Hawken that was very accurate. Also did some with a Pedersoli Frontier like RR shoots. That was even more accurate.

Most of my black powder shooting, though, was modern BP with a scoped TC Encore 50 cal rifle shooting sabots with Blackhorn 209 and Federal 209 primers. Absolutely nothing primitive about that kind of set up other than loading from the muzzle. No kidding, inch groups at 100 were pretty easy. Finally gave it up because the cost per shot was just nuts and that's back when 209 primers were cheap and easy to find.

WWI gear. My grandpa had some of that when he was in the trenches. This cigarette case and matchbox holder is all I have of him. Hadn't thought about him in a long time. Thanks for the memory.

Figured a gal should have a "Big Iron" in a rifle, not just handguns, so found this beauty, today. It's a 1974 vintage Ruger No. 3 single shot in 45-70. That should qualify, right?

Thanks, guys. Yeah, new purchase. Picked it up, yesterday, at a gun show from a local seller we know and trust. Will only be shooting Trapdoor level 45-70 loads in it, so not worried about the recoil. Used to shoot those in an even lighter Contender 45-70 carbine I had, no problem. On the Contender, I added a slip on leather recoil pad which worked great. Put that same pad on the Ruger last night. Perfect fit.

Thanks much Randy! That matte finished Taylors was/is a shooter right out of the box. No fiddling around. They're all desert shooters and I'm sure I've shot that mil-spec more than any of 'em. They're all fun tho. Tip of the hat to Randy for putting them up.
