Antenna TV in the RV

I don’t have a TV in the main part of the house. I do have one in the bedroom but can’t entertain there. The RV will become my entertainment and spare bedroom. I’m he big problem was the RV tv was hooked to its own antenna, cable and satellite dish which is outdated and doesn’t work. The solution was to unhook the connection and just hook a separate antenna directly to it.

In the bedroom the antenna wouldn’t pick up much especially the Packers station. In the RV I was able to point it directly to 141 degrees in the front window. I was surprised at how strong a signal it gets because it was weak inside the house.

Long story short is I can now watch the Packer games with friends.

Unless you have one already, this is the best TV Antenna that I have even used. If you contact them they will even tell you the best one for your exact location. The one I have is about 15 years old. I get 26 Channels here out in the country, many miles from a city and just use it inside to boot. All for free:

I have a neighbor who use to work for Comcast now xfinity. He started installing TV antennas. Had him put one up in the attic of my garage and connect to our cable system already installed in the house. Works great. I think we get 80 channels all free. I also have a Roku that I use with the internet. The neighbor did the install including antenna for 100.00

The local university Eastern Washington’s games are broadcast on a local channel I don’t get with my Dish Package. A couple of years ago I had my travel trailer outside on game day and the antenna in it was able to get the channel I needed. So I sat outside in the rv and watched the game.

Hard for a Seahawks fan to say “Go Packers” but I’ll silently think it.

The local university Eastern Washington’s games are broadcast on a local channel I don’t get with my Dish Package. A couple of years ago I had my travel trailer outside on game day and the antenna in it was able to get the channel I needed. So I sat outside in the rv and watched the game.

Hard for a Seahawks fan to say “Go Packers” but I’ll silently think it.

I’ll be watching the Badgers vs Cougar game next week.

I get all 32 channels that are within 60 miles of me. I aimed one at 141degrees and got most of them clear. To the North or about 340 degrees are a few stations that only come in so-so. I used a splicer and aimed it north. So now I get them all. I’m told you can combine two antennas but have to have them match. I don’t and broke many other rules. Still it works great. My main fact is I get a clear view. Inside the house the antennas barely worked.

I looked at that site and unfortunately all the channels I want have a weak signal. I want to drop Dish, most of the channels on it just have the same few shows and movies over and over. I can stream most of what I want with Prime and Hulu but want to find a cheap streaming service for the big 4 networks (there's still a few shows I watch), ESPN and Fox sports and 24 hr news channels. I've tried a couple but they have a lot more channels than I want and while cheaper than Dish they're still a lot for the few channels I want.

Cut the cable years ago, can’t see giving my hard earned money to places that hate my existence and I’ve lost interest in just about all sports.

My RV is in my metal building and I’ve never tried the antenna in there just assuming it wouldn’t work. With your success under the metal roof I’m thinking I give it a try. Would be great to sit out there and watch the games from Eastern Washington that are not available to my home tv.

Our house built in the 60's has foil backing on the insulation, so indoor TV reception does not get through. Maybe similar situation with your house.

More important that it’s clear on the sides than what is on top.

Success! I tried the tv out in the shop and I was able to receive the over the channel that broadcasts the football games I can’t get on my house tv.

Looking forward to Saturday watching the Eastern WA. Eagles. The rv will be outside as we are leaving Monday for another trip.

I think Mags hit the nail on the head when he said the walls in the house are lined with aluminum foil as a vapor barrier. Most insulation I see have it.

That’s going to be a fun game but I think the Cougs will be overmatched. Heard on the news this morning that WSU is planning a tribute to former coach Mike Leech who passed away way too early several months ago. Leech was a great coach but an even greater interview. There was a rule in my house that if Leech was speaking on TV there was to be total silence. One never knew what was going to spring from his mouth but it never was dull or boring. Loved that man and do miss him.

I worked again on the RV antenna today. This time I figured out the cable TV plug in the outside power hookup. Now instead of cable I can hook up an outside antenna. It also has a satellite hookup. The satellite was out of date and I removed it and the built-in antenna. It had a switch box and I eliminated that too.

Currently I get all the stations within 40 miles of me. In some instances you can get reception up to 60 miles but it’s either 40 miles for me or 80.

I’ve noticed that going up as little as five feet can make a big difference. Inside the RV I’m limited to about twelve feet and I want to go to twenty. I’m getting four out of five bars and want all five. I ordered an old fashioned antenna and will install it on the house. All this is time consuming and is stealing me from shooting. I suspect when the snow flies I’ll be glad I spent the time.

As mentioned earlier, my Antenna is inside. If I were to put it outside, I'm sure I could get plenty more but Lightning has always had me concerned. Especially around here where it "seems" to be more common. I've checked into some grounding and fuses, but never got the good enough answers that I was looking for. But the 26 Channels along with Roku has been well good enough. Again, all for free.

A little off topic but related somewhat.

The travel trailer we had recently had separate inputs for cable and satellite. We carry a Dish Tailgater and with the trailer just attached it to the satellite input. The new Moho only has one input which is not labeled. Tried to plug the dish into it but it didn’t work. Surprised my as the literature stated the unit was satellite ready. Found out that the satellite input is on the roof and designed for a permanent dish mounted on the roof.

When at the dealer I asked about that and the parts guy explained to me how to convert the cable input to satellite. He sold me an inexpensive wall mount connector that I installed in the cabinet that had the cable connections in it and removed the coax from the cable connector and plugged it into the new connector I installed and bingo….easy peasy and if I ever have campground cable it will be a simple switch back to use it.
