It's hurricane season again

Post by clovishound » Tue Aug 29, 2023 11:13 am

There's one in the Gulf that is about to hit the gulf coast of Florida and they are kind enough to pass it on to us here on the east coast of the Carolinas. Hopefully, it will have all the goodie wrung out of it by the time it hits us.

Best wishes for those in it's path, particularly those who will receive the brunt of it in Florida.

Keep your heads down!

Looks like it will swing out to the East before it hits here in Va.

Looks like it went ashore as a cat 3. Hope no one on the forum has to deal with that.

Crazy thing here is that they are forecasting a cat 1 or strong tropical storm by the time it hits us, but all the weather forecasts show 18- 20 mph winds. Current forecasts show it as pretty much a direct hit on my location. Got the yard cleared and laid in water and gas for the generator, but not overly worried. The worst thing is that it rained yesterday and is raining a little this morning. Soaked ground prior to a hurricane is not a good thing as it makes it more likely for trees to uproot.

Ditto what Hatchdog said.

I hope the governmental entitites that be are "proactive" about getting folks there possibly a bit early to give emergency aid, repair downed electrical lines, bridges and such......

Cant imagine living in the path of one of those on the coast of Florida. The storm surge alone does enough damage without the rain and wind. Hoping for the best for all in the path of this one

Well, that turned into a big nothing burger for us. Lots of rain, very little wind. Perhaps the wind picked up around midnight or so, but I saw no evidence of it this morning. I went to bed around midnight when the storm was supposed to be just a little to the west of us.
