The article claims that rabid bobcats are the most dangerous animals in CT. But, that's not quite right. In fact, rabid bobcats are quite rare and no one has been killed by one that has recently been recorded.

Paul Copleman, spokesperson for the DEEP said rabies is not as common in bobcats as some other mammal species, but “When unprovoked attacks do occur, they are generally disease or illness related. ...It’s extremely unusual for bobcats to contract rabies because they are less susceptible to the disease than some other animals".

There are other animals that are more deadly to humans and pets.

In CT and possibly everywhere else, other than people killing other people and creatures, mosquitoes seem to be the greatest deadly threat.

Mosquitoes cause more human suffering than any other organism -- over one million people worldwide die from mosquito-borne diseases every year. Not only can mosquitoes carry diseases that afflict humans, they also transmit several diseases and parasites that dogs and horses are very susceptible to. These include dog heartworm, West Nile virus (WNV) and Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE). In addition, mosquito bites can cause severe skin irritation through an allergic reaction to the mosquito's saliva - this is what causes the red bump and itching. Mosquito vectored diseases include protozoan diseases, i.e., malaria, filarial diseases such as dog heartworm, and viruses such as dengue, encephalitis and yellow fever. CDC Travelers' Health provides information on travel to destinations where human-borne diseases might be a problem.

I'm surprised Washington's is coyotes. I very rarely see them but hear them barking close by at night all the time. I've had goats for many years and they've never bothered them. I was riding Ruby once on a old mining road up in the foothills and saw a lone coyote pop up from behind a berm and when I headed back down it followed us for around a mile keeping back a couple hundred feet. I think it may have had pups and was concerned about them.

I expected Gators to be on the list. Alligators have killed people in Florida, I have seen the stories. But I guess the numbers are low. Other coastal cities in the south as well.. but again, I guess the numbers are low there as well. I was surprised at the number of states where Dogs and Cows are listed as number one. However, Tina bought two Dexter Female cows when we first got to Oklahoma that the gal told her were gentle and sweet and could be milked. Those gals were insane... we had them nearly six months, and Tina is GOOD with animals of all kinds, twice they went bat (um) crap crazy and nearly injured her. Only experience kept her from getting hurt. She traded both, and one was due very shortly... for one milk cow.

You'll note that not only were they crazy gals, they were heavily armed. Bad combination.
The best she could do in the time she had them was get ONE to let her rub her head WHILE she ate from the bucket of grain... when the bucket of grain was empty, no more petting. Couldn't touch the other.

Woman drove up from Texas to get them. She knew in advance that the gals were psycho. Tina told her to:

1. Call before she came and she would get them into the stall, but let her know when so they weren't locked up long. (Because they are nutz, no need to agitate them.
2. Bring help to load, they are nutz.
3. Plan to release them into a round pen or stall for a few days, when the gal delivered them, they ran OUR fence line and escaped by wading into the creek and going UNDER the fence in the water. Took ten days to lure them back into the pasture from the woods next door.

Lady calls and says she will arrive at the farm by 10am. Tina calls the gals UP at 8am to feed and dumps their feed in the feeding buckets in the stall and when they go in, she closes the gate behind them. No biggie, usually the vet comes and looks over the gate and then they are turned out. Nope.

Lady shows up at 5pm. "I got busy." Tina looks in the truck... she is alone. "Where is your help?"
"Oh, I figured WE could load them."


So, we have her back her trailer up to the stall and open both doors, use extra panels we had on hand to create a funnel, so when we open the stall doors there is nowhere to go but into the trailer. Tina asks if the lady is ready, she says Yup. I open the gate and tie it to the back of the trailer.

One of the crazy cows runs to the front of the trailer and Tina yells at the gal to close the center gate in the trailer... She hadn't pulled the pins and the gate was locked open. Before the gal can free the pin and close the center divider, the cow runs back out and won't go in the trailer again. Sis says she won't either.

Tina is NOT a happy camper. I go in the adjacent stall in the barn. The cows don't like men. They both run into the trailer and Tina closes the back doors on the trailer. She reminds the gal that she needs to quarantine the cows to let them adjust to the farm, and then can turn them out after two or three days, perhaps a week. She reminds her what they did here when the seller released them. No problem. She leaves.

Get a call a couple weeks later. The gal had driven back to Texas and left them locked in the trailer til noon the next day, then just let them out because hubby wasn't there to help set up a round pen. Cows ran out, thru the fence onto the neighbors 400 acres and hadn't been seen except by the neighbor. He called that morning and said either come get your cows off my farm or I'm putting them in the freezer. They are terrorizing his cattle. She wants Tina and I to drive to Texas and catch the cows. Um, you didn't do anything you were told, starting with showing up HOURS late. Sorry, not my problem.

And according to whoever was smoking herbs and compiled this list you are at risk of being eaten by a tiger in Oklahoma.

Actually, there are cases in Oklahoma where there have been attacks. Exotic pets escape when there are floods and tigers got away and attacked several folks, plus there are small zoos around the state and they have lions and tigers and bears. Plus, HUGO is famous for .... Elephants. It used to be the Wintering location for all the circuses, and when they died out all the elephants stayed. You can visit, pet the elephants, even stay on the property in cabins and have your breakfast brought to you by one...

One of the neighbor's bulls kept getting out, and we'd call. He would show up on his ATV with a bag of feed on the rack behind him and the bull would trot along behind the ATV until they got back to the pasture, run right along behind the ATV until he stopped and cut the bag open and poured a couple pounds of feed on the ground and happily munch on the feed while the neighbor locked the gate and figured out where he slipped the fence again.

This was back during last year's drought where the pastures were brown and the cows had eaten down the pastures to little of nothing and hay was $200 a bale. Farmers were being conservative on hay and feeding once a day. The bull had been used to being fat and happy, eating all he wanted. When he got hungry he pushed thru the fence when he found a weak spot and grazed in the overgrown ditch lines. Another neighbor spotted him and tried to contain him while the owner's wife was on the way with the ATV and feed, and the bull got mad because the new guy was just sitting there in the UTV with no feed. He started head butting the UTV and nearly turned it over. The new guy wisely decided the owner was on his own.

Well, according to online resources the most 'dangerous' in Oregon are the black bear and mountain lion. The most deadly the mosquito.

Those Nutria has spread into Virginia when we were living there. They were tearing up the dam in our friend's two acre pond. I saw a short documentary on one of the Science Channels where New Orleans PD Officers were carrying Suppressed Ruger 10-22s on Midnight shift and shooting them in the canals because of the damage they were doing to the levys. Another brief short showed a booming businesses where they went into the bayou and hunted them for both the bounty on the tails, and the meat which was feed to dogs.

I suspect the definition of “most dangerous animal” must apply to danger to everything in the environment. Washington state’s selection is the coyote and I don’t recall there ever being a human injury or death from a coyote. Now if I were a field mouse I would be concerned.

I was going to say "humans" but I guess they're not on the list in Texas. Fire ants? I can think of a lot of things worse than that.

As I recall forty that critter’s name is Badger???? Now a badger can be down right dangerous so he fits the bill.
