SHTF today........

Post by fortyshooter » Mon Aug 07, 2023 7:34 am

Going to my local Post Office this morning and talk with the Postmaster again. My shotgun has been sitting in the Richmond Distribution Center since Aug 2 and tracking shows no movement and there is no updated delivery date but it still claims it is on it's way. It just needs to be on a truck and go 30 miles down to my local PO.
So what we have is a firearm lost inside a USPS shipping center....it could have been stolen! That place has no direct phone number available to me to contact some employee to verify what the problem is. If no updated info from my local PO I'm contacting the Va. State Police about a missing firearm inside the distribution center. We don't want anymore stolen firearms on the streets of Richmond do we?? I do have the serial number off of it.
I bet the State Police can get in that joint and find it!!!!!

We had such a problem with the USPS OKC distribution center being a black hole for losing our Amazon mailed packages that we called Amazon customer service and told them that they could either start sending everything by UPS or we'd just stop ordering. They looked at the tracking history and put that order on our profile. A month later we saw a news story where the Joint Task Force busted a "Ring of Thieves" who had been stealing pallets of packages from the distribution center in OKC. Persons known to the employees IN the center would back a rental van the same size and color of the contract vans up to the loading dock and the employees would load a pallet or two into the van and off they go. They caught them when someone noticed the van in a rural area dumping empty UPS boxes and envelopes into a ravine on a back road and noted the licenses number then called PD.

The apartment was filled with unopened packages and several plastic wrapped pallets of "Missing" amazon goods. Sheesh... unorganized organized crime at it's best.

Well the local postmaster of nothing just said it might be sitting in a shipping container and no mention of when it might arrive or trying to contact the Center....a pair of wasted shoe leather right there! State Police won't touch it either since it was shipped in from out of state EVEN though the problem is IN state.
Going to call the shop that shipped it and let them know tomorrow since closed on Mondays.

Most companies I have bought bullets and components for loading have come USPS with no issue.

No more dealing with the USPS. Thing is I just can't order another one since they aren't made anymore and this one was in new condition.

I feel for you Forty! I purchased a nice jewelers lathe off eBay a couple of years ago. The seller was in Michigan and it made it to the Detroit hub and never made it to me. I was ticked off and have never used USPS for shipping again. I'll take it to FedEx or UPS and ship. I have had a couple of small issues with FedEx but never one with UPS.

The shipping companies have a bunch of folks working for them that just don't care anymore. I ordered ammo from the Company recommended by NCG and it was shipped FEDEX and required a signature. HARD to come by ammo, 357 Maximum and 30 Carbine. I waited and watched for the delivery guys, FEDex tracking showed it on track and due that day. Ran back to the bathroom, couldn't wait any longer. My big problem is that new route drivers can confuse our address as there is an address that matches ours on the South Side of town, with a different Zip but same Rural Route number. We even put on the shipping notes, to watch for this error. (Address says xxxxx but we live outside of town in XXXX)

I hear a door slam as I am coming back to the LR from the back of the house and the FEDEX driver is getting in his truck to leave. Package is sitting in plain view on the porch and he didn't bother to ring the bell.
I call out to him and say, "Hey, that package requires a signature."
"Huh?"
"That package," I toss my chin toward the porch, "requires me to sign for it."
He pulls up his clipboard and reads the note. "Oh, whatever." Takes out his phone and pulls up the screen. "Sign here if you want."

I called the shipper and thanked him for his prompt shipment and told him, "BTW, if you and I pay extra for the signature on delivery, this is what happened."

He was very interested to hear that.

Tina recently ordered a very nice Sewing machine. When it arrived, several days late, the box looked like they had played fooseball using fork lifts and the box as the ball. This was an $11,000 machine Tina had caught on sale. It was damaged and she returned it. The seller sent out another machine. When it arrived, that box had a crushed corner and a long tear down one side. She just refused the package. The driver said, "No skin off my Butt." He rolled the door down and it slammed into the corner of the large box. He rolled it up a bit and kicked the side of the box to move in back into the box truck, then slammed the door down and took off. His packages in the back of the FedEx truck were thrown around and jumbled, not stacked. Tina had taken a pic of the box on the floor of the truck and it showed the condition of the truck in the background.

Next fedex delivery we had a new driver. HIS truck was neat and clean, he was neat and professional and had a great attitude. I called in a compliment.

Good luck. I recently ordered something from the USA that went from Nebraska to Chicago to Germany by mistake, spent a few weeks there and then to Montreal, Toronto and then finally to me. It's a gong show.

I have pretty good luck with my Amazon packages but I live in WA and most of my orders are delivered by Amazon trucks from around 150 miles away directly to my local post office.

Theft from shipping containers is a big problem especially in LA and I would think other large cities as well. A friend of mine did long haul to LA for awhile and said there were areas in LA where they would break into your trailer while you were stuck in traffic. He stayed in a overnight parking lot and said it was surrounded with razor wire and had armed guards patrolling the lot.

If it was moving it wouldn't bother me that much. But just sitting there just up the road not knowing when it will ever move drives me nuts.
Might see if they have job openings at that center and get hired just long enough to get my package on the truck then quit!

Yep, I hate the usps, especially the Memphis facility.
Forty, I fell ya pain bro. I had a package stuck in limbo for two & a half mons.
It made it from CO. to the Armpit of TN, which by the way is not not I refer to as, but anyway.
Looked liked it had been rolled down the road from there, but
they did at some point put the box inside of a newer box.
Surprisingly 99.9% of it was there.

Well got a recorded message this afternoon. 'Your package will arrive late within 3 days" I think hope it is loaded in a trailer just waiting for a free truck to bring it on home. Stay tuned and thanks for the good luck wishes!

USPS has been doing a good job for me lately. But in the past I have had problems and there are no phone numbers for the local post office. NONE. You can not contact them unless you go there personally or call some 800 number to somewhere that doesn't care. One problem I had got a response after doing the "800 leave a message and we will direct your complaint" routine. She said "please call the local office if this does not get delivered today" and I told her I couldn't because I did not have a phone number and she said "you do now" and gave me a local number. I put it in my contact list of my phone.

My local Post Office is very good. Of course, I live in a small town, which might explain why.

A few years ago, I signed up for what's called Informed Delivery at

https://www.usps.com/manage/informed-delivery.htm

Each morning, I receive an email with scanned images of all the first class mail and tracking info about any packages to be delivered that day:

We have informed delivery, and Tina will get really worried and angry if we don't get everything in the scan. I talked to the post(woman) about it and she says they hate informed delivery for just that reason. The "Informed delivery" scans are taken as the mail is sorted that day, and scans even the mail that is sorted that day; AFTER they stop sending the mail to the trays for the day's delivery. It's mail that came in later and it goes into trays for the next day, but since it's sorted today it's considered "Today's" mail and shows on "informed delivery."

Once Tina found that out, she calmed down a bit.
