What did you do at your reloading bench today?

Loaded 50 rounds of 357magnum. 14.1 grains of Winchester 296 under a 158 grain JHP Zero bullet. I don't know why but this load kicks more than a load under a 158 grain JSP Zero brand bullet.

JHP will likely be longer bullet than a JSP. Thus more of the bullet is in the case. That might increase the pressure, thus, more kick.

Thanks for the information. I just loaded each to their respective cannelures and didn't consider the slight difference in seating depth.

I bought some Hornady Custom 44 mag ammo to try for grouping comparison to my hunting loads. I'm shooting a BB CCH Carbine.

First thing I noticed was the OAL was 1.580" vs. their manual (and many others) of 1.600". No big deal, but also the case length was only 1.255" rather than the Trim To length, they and others cite as 1.275". The bullet was the familiar 240 gr. XTP. (A great bullet I've used on deer in a handgun). The cannelure lined up well with the case mouth (with low OAL making up for the low case length). There was a very slight crimp from what I could see using a magnifying glass.
I shot 3 groups of 5 at 100 yards and they were tighter groups than mine averaging. 1.8" vs. 2.3" and they were a higher velocity, 1741 fps vs. 1718 fps.
So with the remaining 5 rounds, I extracted the bullets and used their powder in my trimmed down WW cases. I don't know if their primer was mag or not, but their powder was flake like H110 and about the same grain weight as my H110 load, so I used a mag primer as I do in my H110 loads. I also seated them to 1.580" and gave them a very light crimp.
So for comparison of how these 5 shoot now, the variables are the case and maybe the primer. I plan to shoot them and a few other test loads the next low wind day. It's been blowing 12-15 mph the past two weeks.

Rainy this morning. Had a pork butt on the pellet smoker from 11 pm last night so while I was waiting I did some reloading. Loaded up 400 rounds of my 357 Mag. plinking load since I was down to 100 loaded. I still have about 300 more cleaned brass and bullets waiting to be loaded. May do that tomorrow since weatherman is predicting more rain. Pork butt finished up after 15 hours. Wrapped it up and let it rest for 2 hours then pulled it. All in all a very productive day.

I'm headed back to the bench tomorrow, because 50 won't be enough.

Went to the range on Tuesday and burned thru most of my 30-06 ammo with the M1 Garand. So I figured I better make up some more ammo.

Put back 80 rounds into enblocking clips and made a few extra to finish up the Sierra Match King bullets. The M1 is such a pleasure to shoot that i can burn thru 100 rounds very fast.

Ive got some of these in my basement with that exact same load. They shoot ok out of my LCRX but in my Ruger Blackhawks the accuracy isnt as good. Lets us know how they shoot.

Looking thru my notes, I don't find any .38 spl loads using Universal. Whaaaa? I just may have to rectify that. 4.5gr Universal sounds about right with a 158gr rnfp coated bullet. Thru my Blackhawk.

RT, I haven't loaded much 38 Spl with Universal, I use Titegroup for those. I have a few loads in my records, but they are all light loads. I do use 6.2 gr. of Universal with the MB 158 RNFP in 357 Mag. loads for both my rifles and handguns. That is one of my favorite loads. I have about 500 rounds of that loaded up and ready to go.

Universal and Unique are right next to each other on the burn rate chart. They will load often times with similar amounts

Agree^^^. With 158gr rnfp coated, it's 6.0gr Universal thru my Henry. That is one accurate load. That and a 180gr rnfp with 11.5gr 2400 plays heck on steel plates at 100 yards. BAM!

I'm shooting them from my S&W 642 hammerless revolver with 2" barrel, fixed sights, at 10 yards, they group on vertical center, but about an inch to the right, rested. I haven't chronyed them.
Not bad on recoil and easy shooting at 6" steel plates. I can see they'd be different results with the BH. (5" or 7" bbl?).
I've used Bullseye and CFE Pistol as well as W231 with different amounts for each with this bullet as well. Pretty much the same results with some movement of the group. But with steel, they all go down!
