Upgrading my Wood/Leather Shop

I still have to sort several of the tool drawers, and the boathouse / storage is next. I want to build a storage rack for the slabs of wood that is on rollers so I can access/view both sides and move the wood away from the walls to spray for insects twice a year. There are also things in that building that are going away. We have held onto them for far too long. We made a LOT of trips to the dump before the move, but things we kept when we moved, may go away now.

If you have questions about anything in the pics, please ask. Any suggestions, offer them. I am happy to learn something new.

Nope, my memory has been affected by all the surgeries, so I have gotten really tired of standing in the middle of the shop wondering "Where did I put that?" or "Where are those?" Time wasted can't be recovered....

I labeled all the tool box drawers several years ago for just that reason. Now, I just gave up and I'll label everything. It's not my original idea. Years ago, in the early 70s when I first went into the Corps, a roommate and I stopped for Gas and he opened the hood on his car and there under the hood in bold marker was the oil weight, number of quarts, filter type, gap for the plugs and the timing delay.

I laughed. He said, "Laugh if you want, but I don't have to look those things up every time to make sure."

Around the farm you'll find the tire pressure written on the various equipment just above each tire, bolt sizes for certain bolts jotted near the bolts.
(like the bolt for the blade on the table saw.) Makes life easier. Young folks laugh, older guys say, "I'm going to do that when I get home."

When my wife and I were organizing our new rv I told her I wanted to label all the drawers and cabinets as everything is not where we are used to and is a struggle to find. As you can guess, that idea went over like a lead balloon.

My wife got a new dishwasher for the kitchen and it has 100 selections for power, temps, cycles, and the like. She uses the same settings all the time, but it's my job to start it at night. If the power fluctuates, as it does often, the settings are lost. She goes to bed about three hours earlier than I do, to get up with the sun to milk. I made sure NONE of my hobbies required fed, milked, or early rising. I got tired of NOT remembering the settings, so I put a small line in front of each of the required buttons I have to touch to get the proper wash. She started to complain, so I told her EVERY power failure I'll just wake you up. "Hmmm? I guess those small marks aren't a problem."

Back at it this morning, and going thru more drawers. The problem has never been lack of tools in later life, but too many. I kept the quality ones in the shop and the others went into the barn bag. I had done the screwdriver drawer last night, but forgot the pic... Here tis...

They are divided into common, phillips, and torx, with a collection of stubby, offset, and minis around the perimeter. Then there are the pliers. I have two of those drawers. One for pliers...

The bulk of the extras went into the barn bag. We should have plenty of tools at the barn. I already have a bag set up for when we haul the trailer, so I can change the tires or work on the various aspects of that deal. It also has tools in it that apply to the two trucks. If we take a long trip, I can now toss the barn bag in the truck as well.

There are a few more things to go thru, and sort. But the bulk of the shop has been taken care of now.

I used to go thru the shop at least twice a year with the pickup backed up to the door and make a dump run. Hauling off the excess scraps and junk to limit the build up. Looks like it's time to start that practice again. Miss T just did her shop, hauling a dozen bags of material to goodwill after going thru the stuff she picked up at an estate sale. She kept just as much. Great buy. She has already made a number of quilts from the material she kept.
