First outing New Vaquero

Post by Vaquero » Thu May 11, 2023 9:16 pm

Yes. After a short work day and then mowing, I grabbed a few rounds and walked out back. ;)

Walked off 10 yds., those 158gr swc is a mystery load. :o some leftover from the Rossi test a short while ago. There were only 10 so I started with them.
First shot at the 3" gong, bang, ding, wow wasn't expecting that. next, the 4" center of the big silhouette gong, yep another ring. Back to the 3, and a miss. :? Moved to the paper, the lower right three first, then loaded the last 3 and that's the ones one the left. Oh I saved one to tear down. ;) They really seemed to be hotter than either of the 180 loads.
Then I went my two Pugnose loads, ;)
With the Bluedot the four around the bullseye were first then I faded a bit.
First shot with the 2400 is the one on the inside right. The other was the fourth shot.
Heck, I'm happy about it. :D

Nice shooting Randy. How are the throats on the cylinder of that gun?

Thanks A, I just gave them a quick glace the other afternoon when I got home they looked ok best I saw.
I don't think it's been shot a lot.
I had a couple of decent loads the other day with the Rossi and the 158's, going to load a few of those to try.

Good shooting Randy with that first target and the pugs with 2400! Have you tried HP-38 with 357 loads?

Just curious if those 358 cast bullets will push through the cylinder

Never used it period. :o
The Rossi loads I tested that looked good from 50 yds with the 158's were
3.7 Trail Boss
3.7 Clays
5.5 CFE Pistol
So I'll probably try a few of these and see what we get.
To be honest, neither of those 180gr loads were uncomfortable to me.

Those 180’s in the Rugers with 2400 are a pretty stout load

Nice! With the 2400 load and 180's at around 1100 fps you could strap that gun on your hip and just dare some critter to try to gnaw on your leg. The horsepower is there and so is the point of impact.
