What did you do at your reloading bench today?

Nasty cold and rainy day. Just perfect to create a new 45 Colt load with some 200 gr. RNFP bullets. I decided to go lighter with the bullets since all I shoot is paper and some steel.

The press is working hard:

Universal is a good powder for the .45 Colt. I've used 7.2-7.5gr with a 250gr rnfp coated bullet with fine results. Probably my favorite round to shoot; handgun or lever gun.

Loaded the last 44 Bayou bullets 9mm 115 grain rn over some CFE powder. I bought 8 sample packs in 3 calibers: .380, 9mm, 38/357 to lower the shipping cost. I'm using 9mm Ruger revolver chamber as a case gauge check, 8 caliber Lyman gauge allows a few flawed rounds to pass then they won't chamber in assorted 9mm pistols. This bullet profile seems to fit the bill. I was not setting the Lee factory crimp die properly on my press. Seems I may have been improperly setting die wrong (too light) snce I started reloading. 38 special is a forgiving round

Glad for the tip on Universal, I have some on hand and think I'll give it a try in my 45 Colt New Vaquero. I was usually using Green Dot and since being given a few bottles of Trail Boss, I've been using that. The Trail Boss yields more of a plinking velocity. I used the Green Dot for the bowling pins - it seems to clear them off the table in a hurry!

Meanwhile I loaded 25 44s with H110 under XTPs.
For the .243 Long Ranger, I loaded two different loads: 15 with 39.0 gr RL 15 under 80 gr TTSX and 25 with 35.7 gr RL 15 under 90 Gr Nosler BTs. Trimming up hunting loads.

Seems like my Henry 44. mag carbine is shooting tighter groups the more rounds I put through it. I think it likes a dirty barrel. I named it Pig Pen.

Drizzly day here, so, getting things set-up to load some .45 Colt and .45 acp using Red Dot. Sunday bliss.

Anybody have experience with these? Picked up 2500 at a local auction for 30 clams since I'm running low on large rifle and new stock is nonexistent around here. I loaded 10 yesterday in 6.5 needmore and they seem to shoot as accurate as my usual primers. Just thought I'd pick you guys brain before I loaded up a bunch. Thanks Dave

Must have been stored well. Imported they must be vintage 1950-1970. You say the first 10 shot well, so likely ok to keep on with them.

Six test loads. Accurate #5 behind 200gr Gallant coated round nose flat point.

Loaded two sets of 20 rounds of 7mm-08 Rem. One for my rifle (Savage 110) of 45.3 gr. IMR4350 under 120 gr. Nosler BTs. The other for my Encore pistol of 42.0 gr. of IMR 4064 under 120 gr. Sierra Pro Hunters.
It would be nice if both 7mm-08s liked the same load; but we take life as it is.

RWS makes some of the best percussion caps for black powder shooting. If they are like those I dont think you have anything to worry about.

RWS makes some of the best percussion caps for black powder shooting. If they are like those I dont think you have anything to worry about.

Back when I worked for a distributor we sold both CCI and RWS caps and the RWS were quite a bit more expensive. Not sure if that means anything but RWS has a great reputation.

Yesterday I finished up my 300 Blackout test load project with the exception of the Speer 125 TNT. I’m still looking for some locally and put the bat signal out on the local trader site hoping somebody will have a few laying around.

This is a combination of three bullets and three powders for each bullet with 2-4 different charges of each. I only had 24 of the 155 grain Hornady on hand so I’m a bit limited on that test. Now to get some warmer temps to hit the range as this is going to take some time to get thru. Not that much shooting but using a public range there will be a bunch of waiting to go down range and replace targets.

Thanks Al, I may have to take you up on your offer. Heading into town today including stopping into Sportsman’s Warehouse who I believe has some Speer. Bullets on hand. I’m also keeping an eye out for #11 caps for Redthies up in BC.

My BBS in 357 is supposed to be here today with a new Shilen barrel so Iam working up some light loads for use in Lever Silhouette. I found some data in Lee's reloading manual for loads using CFE Postol. i thought of using Unique but I have a limited supply and is harder to find than CFE. The barrel has a 1-14 twist instead of the 1-16 of the Henry barrel.

I loaded a ladder load of 3.6 grns to 4.4grns at .2grns apart with Missouri 140 zinger bullets and 5.3grns to 5.7grns with Beery's 158grn plated bullets. It does not take much to knock over a pistol caliber ram so I am looking only for accuracy.

Tom, I had 59 163 gr swc's, Hodgdon manual shows 2.8-3.1 for a 158 gr.
So I loaded these at 2.9.
Got rfn that weigh the same, gonna load 50 over some cfe pistol. Thinking about 4.9 grs for those.
I also ran a couple loads of brass through the tumbler.
