I have a shooting range on my land!
Last week one of the Baptist Church Deacons stopped by to talk about the church using my new 9 passenger van that I have on order. We talked about the members and their needs. He mentioned at one time not so long ago several of the men would go shooting together especially right before hunting season. I told him I shot almost daily out my back door. Then we talked about what kind of shooting I did.
Later in the week he had a meeting with the Paster and other Deacons and they discussed how I wanted to use the van for church and community shut-ins. He also mentioned that I had a shooting range. Fast forward to church yesterday and three men stopped to talk to me about my range. Seems they want to get some shooting in.
Itβs amazing that here I fit right in and in Seattle I was an outcast.

No it was the Seattleites that was after my money. People here like me because I want to get out and do things. There are a lot of widows and widowers here that are still active but have no one to do things with. I want to get the 9 passenger van so a group can go together.

Hey, if you want to have folks come out to your place and shoot with you, that's great. How far are you willing to take this, though? Just curious. Your call all the way.

Gene, I was just kidding. Having met you I think you're a really nice guy and you've found a home with nice folks.Sir Henry wrote: βMon Jan 16, 2023 10:28 amNo it was the Seattleites that was after my money. I have the same kind of experience living here. Country folks.
Carol was a partner in a big city law firm and was terrified of red necks and country living. She thought we all carried guns, (well, we kinda do), swilled beer and cursed a lot, (well, we do a little of that too). So on our second date, (almost thirty years ago), I took her to a pig roast in the country, on a farm, with a beer trailer, and lots of red necks. She had a ball! Now she's scared of the city and a lot of her clients out here are farmers.
Country folks are just honest folks.

Reminds me of the sayingβ¦ city folks fear gunshots and ignore sirens. Country folks fear sirens and ignore gunshots.cooperhawk wrote: βMon Jan 16, 2023 11:01 amGene, I was just kidding. I would like to shoot once a week with others. Maybe rotate where we shoot. If I understand him correctly they used to shoot out behind the church.North Country Gal wrote: βMon Jan 16, 2023 10:34 amHey, if you want to have folks come out to your place and shoot with you, that's great. At the head of our lake a Baptist Minister has a range behind his home. I've known him and his wife for years and
they're really good folks. Anyway, most days he's out there blasting away.
When new folks move into the area it takes them some time to get used to the gun fire.
We hardly pay attention although I often remark that the Preacher is killing sinners.

Re: I have a shooting range on my land!
When we moved into the new place here in Oklahoma, two of the first three visitors were pastors of the local churches, inviting us to come to the church if we so desired. No pressure. During the conversation, I mentioned that I was a former Marine Staff NCO, competitive pistol shooter, and had retired from decades of LE including years as a Firearms Instructor. I asked them both how their Church would feel, with the current situation in the world, about my carrying in the church. Funny, both pastors said the same thing.
"We'd have no problem with it considering your background, in fact, not only do many of the members carry in the church, I do as well."
(It's Oklahoma son...)

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Even from 2000 miles away, I'm blinded by the great big grin on your face. You chose wisely.Sir Henry wrote: βMon Jan 16, 2023 11:31 amI would like to shoot once a week with others. Re: I have a shooting range on my land!
My house is very small and modest yet it makes a very inviting home. The view is one of the best territorial views Iβve ever seen. What really makes it special is the neighbors from five miles around. Itβs a small pocket of families that have been here for 150 years. Three last names makes up the majority of my nearest neighbors.fortyshooter wrote: βTue Jan 17, 2023 11:04 amGene... you have a very scenic shooting range so might as well share it with good company!

Gene, I'm sure I mentioned it long ago during your home search, however I wanted to suggest again. Based on your taste, I really think you would enjoy a vist to " The House On the Rock " in Spring Green Wisconsin. I have not researched it to see how far it is from you, but, I DO think you might enjoy the visit.

Itβs 216 miles from my house. Sounds like something I would want to see. I may plan it for one of our first trips.markiver54 wrote: βTue Jan 17, 2023 7:00 pmGene, I'm sure I mentioned it long ago during your home search, however I wanted to suggest again.
