Backyard moose
Backyard moose
Just now I was eating my breakfast and I looked out the slider to see this small bull moose walking across my back yard. I grabbed my phone but by then he was in the brush and I was unable to get a decent picture of him. He kept moving and dropped off the ridge to where the road is. Didn’t follow as I was not dressed and didn’t want to fight the 18” of snow and the 18 degree temp in my comfy pants and Bearpaw indoor boots. Here’s a couple of fuzzy pics.
Re: Backyard moose
That trumps the (3) squirrels I have in my backyard! Hopefully Bullwinkle stays out of the way of a front bumper.

Re: Backyard moose
Well, Mr. Bullwinkle has made a return visit.
Yesterday my neighbor called me and said that her mailbox had the red “mail out” flag damaged and that my box had the entire door ripped off. Both of us immediately thought vandalism. I went down to the mailbox and found that yes, my door was completely ripped off. I looked around and found in the fresh snow pile under the box and next to the broken door were some 6” long black hairs. Ah ha! Looked at the road and found some moose tracks here and there (lots of tire tracks). Then I noticed a scape on the side of the box that wasn’t there before. So Sherlock Holmes here deducted that that little bull moose had his way with the boxes. If your screen is large enough you will see the moose hair in the pic. Happy it wasn’t a vandal.

Re: Backyard moose
Piss Poor metal in that door. Geeze!! They sure don't make things like they used to. Least BullWinkle didn't try to make his "scrape" on your front door!

Re: Backyard moose
aren't they like deer in that once they select something to use in making a scrape, they will usually come back to keep it fresh ....

Re: Backyard moose
Hope not! Lucky for me that the rut for moose is in the early fall so whatever motivated this guy shouldn’t cause him to come back. Just a young bull out “feeling his oats” hopefully.
Muddy, that box had a plastic door but the one I bought to replace it does have as you said a piss poor metal door. Doubt it will hold up any better that the original mailbox.
