Another powder to try.......

Post by fortyshooter » Wed Nov 30, 2022 3:44 pm

Found some Alliant BE-86 today at the LGS so picked up 1 lb. to try it with my Unique type loads to see how it compares.
Very close to Unique burn rate just a touch slower. For 40 bucks I'll give it a try with some mild 44 Mag and 45 Colt loads and see how it shoots.
Last time I saw Unique a good while ago it was 75 bucks per pound!

forty, I think you'll like BE-86. It works well in .357 and .45 acp. I don't believe I've tried it in .45 Colt. Yet. Clean burning and easy to work with.

I've had good luck with lovex's clean shot. I can keep everything under the speed of sound pretty easily. I am trying imr 4227 now. There are some IMR 4227 loads that are sub-sonic, and that go a bit faster. I bought it mostly four 357mags and 45 colt loads. I had been looking at 4227 as a good 357 mag powder for my plated and jacketed bullets when I ran across this article.

It gave me the idea of giving it a try for 45 colt.

No worries, I've a terrible problem of not really getting around to the point some times. Giving my post a read, it's kind off track, in my defense i knew what i wanted to say...

Yeah, think I'll try some in the .45 Colt also. 7.3-7.5gr under a 250gr rnfp coated bullet ought to be good. Lordy knows I have enough .38 spl and .45 acp loaded up, so, the Colt gets the test. These ^^^^^ will be a starting point.

Stopped by the same shop this morning and they had a 1 lb. container left of BE-86 so I grabbed it. Looks like it will work well for some of my .44 Mag loads and will try in in .45 ACP and 45 Colt at some point. Main thing is it will ease the use of my remaining Unique supply.
Alliant says they are still producing it but where the heck is it going??

GT has had unique twice in the last few months. It doesn't last long, but they do get it in.
