Something like this is not uncommon on some centerfire rifles, especially when brass has been reloaded a number of times. There are even tools/devices to get this done quickly:

I've never heard of this happening with a straight wall pistol cartridge. I'd be calling Underwood.
Save the rest of that ammo, and the box it came in for the lot number. They'll need that when you contact them.

Thanks for the info, but unfortunately I couldn’t find the tool for the .357. I’ll spend some time this weekend trying to remove the case from the chamber. Let’s see how that will work!

I contacted Underwood, who asked for pictures. All info sent to them. Let’s see what they will say.

I had a case stuck in a 22 Hornet. Midway USA had a good videonof removal using a Cerro safe type chamber casting alloy. Used a cleaning jag with pat h to plug up the barrel just at the end of the case, melted some of the casting alloy and poured the Chamber full. Waited about 2 minutes and tapped it out. Most difficult part was making a little funnel to pour the alloy through. AND working up the nerve to donit.

Along the lines of the Cerrosafe method, this guy has a good method that could work for ya. Be really careful to NOT get any of the epoxy putty in your chamber!

I've used this exact same JB putty stuff to repair a leaking side case on my dirt bike. I ride (and crash, sometimes..... ) in really rocky terrain. It stuck to a very cracked and oily clutch cover, & got me the 8-9 miles back to truck. It works good and dries fast. Like I said above, just DO NOT allow any to dry on ANY part of the chamber. Dunno if there's any sort of "release agent" a guy could smear in there to keep it off parts ya don't want it to stick to.

I would think if you sprayed some One Shot case lube on a Qtip then wiped the chamber down with it you wouldn't have a problem removing any unwanted epoxy from the chamber. I have used Hornady's case lube as a release agent for everything I use Acraglas on. I have never had a problem.

An update: after trying to remove the broken case myself, decided to ask Henry customer service for advice. They asked me to send the gun to them. They removed the case and replaced the barrel. All under warranty. Great customer service.

Incredible they replaced the barrel for an issue that was not caused by the rifle itself.

I have been keeping an eye on this post. I am glad to hear Henry fixed the problem. I believe a rough chamber was the problem. On two of the replaced barrels on my 357 BBS the chambers had melted balls of steel and looked like they had been finished with a rasp file. I had rough extraction and deeply scratched brass.

Welcome to the forum. If the head extracted and is not attached it eliminates the easy pushing it back with a cleaning rod. It might be possible to push it back with a brush attached but you run the risk of causing other problems.

Have you shot the ammo in other firearms? It seems to me the cases are weak if they split like that.

Thanks! No, I haven't fired this ammo in any other gun, This Henry is the only one I have. The ammo is Underwood 158gr.

That is really odd because Underwood is great stuff and has a nickle plated case. If it happened to me, I would probably end up taking it to a good gunsmith. Best of luck with this. I can't wait to be able to pick up the Henry Big Boy Classic 357 that I purchased online and had shipped to my local FFL. I can pick it up on 12/8.

EDIT: I just read more of this thread after my post and read that Henry took care of it. Makes me even more pleased with my recent purchase.
