What Rifle Would You Like To See HRA Build Next?

Post by BMCTED » Fri Jun 24, 2022 3:04 pm

I saw a thread titled this on a Canadian Forum.

So what rifle would y'all like to see HRA build next?

I'd like to see Henry build an AR-5 (MA-1) bolt-action survival rifle in .22 hornet. A close clone based on their experience with the AR-7 rifle would be OK.

I think a bolt-action in a center-fire (hotter, reloadable, reliable) cartridge would make a MUCH better rifle then the .22 rimfire AR-7 six-ways-come-Sunday. Bolt action would be much more reliable and a huge improvement. I think .223 would be too hot in a very light (2-3 pounds) rifle.

Since SURVIVAL RIFLE is in the name, I hope HRA would include a simple clean and lube kit ... and maybe a small container with any small part likely to get lost if you had to strip the thing in the field. Make sure the receiver will stow in the stock with a magazine in place with room for another mag.

Simple - rugged aperture (peep) sights are great. PUT A DANG SLING ON IT. How the H E double hockey sticks you build a collapsible field rifle with no way to carry it is beyond me. The Tupperware water-proof stock is OK (keeps your gun parts fresher - longer ;) )... I don't care if it floats or you can paddle a canoe with it. Just keep it simple and don't put a lot of useless crap on it.

A Lighting, aka pump action pistol round carbine/rifle would sell like hot cakes.

I send them an email once a year asking for it..

A repeating shotgun in 12 & 20 ga.............Since Henry's guns are mostly copies of guns made in the past it would be easy to do.

A single shot 38-55, which would be Simple.
Just use the 30-30 bolt, they are the same. :o ;) and then then a .379 barrel.

Been thinking about buying one and sending it to JES and having it rebored. :D

A survival rifle by definition should use a very common cartridge, such as 5.56 NATO. That way when the world ends you can strip ammo off dead zombies. I think you would have a really bad time finding .22 Hornet once your supply runs out. I had a Kel-Tec SU-16C in 5.56/ .223 for years, it was very light at 4.7 pounds and the round was no problem at all. You can go way lighter in a rifle, even a bolt action, and still shoot it well.

Have had a couple, and still have a 223 in a bolt gun. :)

For $3500 you can get a C Sharps or a Shiloh in the big fifty so why would H.R. A. want to go there?

How about a falling block rifle (think Ruger #1 or Quigleys rifle type) chambered in all calibers of the fun rainbow?
You only think you're alone.
