A friend of the daughter's was selling a cow, already bred. She needed to get rid of it quick and offered to deliver it as part of the price. Fine, it could keep the milk cow company. They delivered the Moo yesterday.

Tina says this cow looks like she has the face of a cartoon cow. She is here to keep the milk cow company since Tina weaned the calves.... Farm country folk will understand this next line: "This new cow is NOT a pretty cow."

Put them in the weaning pasture together. The new cow dropped her head and butted the milk cow in the side. Then lined up and head butted her. Can't have that so Tina pulled the milk cow and put the calves in. She butted both of them. Alpha behavior, she is seeing who is boss. By morning, she had calmed down. The little bull calf was funny. She would butt him and he'd sneak around behind her and try and nurse... she is with calf but not producing milk yet. He was always disappointed that the pumps are closed.

Really want to keep it small, less work, not wanting in the cattle bidness. . But Molly was lonely, so company wasn't a bad thing.

When my neighbor had a couple of cows in the pasture one year they got along well with our goats. Why I originally got a goat was to keep my horse company when my friend's pony passed.
