A couple of weeks ago we took in a movie as a birthday present for my wife....of course, her choice. I was hoping for "Sully," but we did see an excellent movie (another true story), called "Greater." I still plan to see Hanks' performance...I've read that Sullenberger was very satisfied with the performance Hanks gave.

Nice long day of shooting today followed by movies with my wife. I recommend going to watch Sully by the way. Really well done.

I really did enjoy the movie. Wasn't sure how to make a full movie about a 2 minute event that I already knew the outcome of. It was still very suspenseful!

Going to watch some Sunday night football and have a Bud Light. I bought a case of these ten ounce cans. Seven ounce bottles were just not enough every time and the twelve ounce can is a bit too much sometimes, but the ten ounce can is just right! I hope everyone had a pleasant weekend.

Looks like a wintery mix for the weekend, snow, rain, and below freezing at night. We have the woodstove on tonight, and the kettle is on for tea. House is pretty darn cozy for a crappy night outside. But we are lucky & thankful that we don't have to deal with what our southeast US neighbors are facing. Stay safe folks.

Was sipping a Coke as I watched the Cubbies bring in a run with the Baez' homer, bottom of 8th.
Game just ended with Cubs 1 - Giants 0.

Wow, watching Cubbies closer Aroldis Chapman pitch a scoreless ninth throwing those 102-mph pitches was neat!!
Had to be careful when I blinked.

Monday is Canadian Thanksgiving, so we are having our big turkey supper tonight. Then leftovers tomorrow fried up, turkey sandwiches Tuesday, and turkey soup with whatever is left! Just finished feeding horses, and getting ready to chow down myself. Woodstove is on, so let it snow. Tea later and watch the US debate.

A long day. I'm trying something that I don't normally have. I found a can of diet cola. I took the whiskey I use for Manhattans and I'm having a whiskey and coke. I wouldn't waste good Jack on coke, but the fodder I make a Manhatten with I would. It's not bad.

You must be way up north in NY...as a city boy, anything north of Westchester County is upstate; oh, and a New York distilled bourbon drives many of the purists absolutely senseless.

No baseball tonight, just a Bud Light and some reading material. I really don't read as much as I used to since I purchased this IPad, so today I went to the Franklin County Library used book sale that they have once a year to raise money for the library. You really can't go wrong for $2.00 for hardcover and 25 cents for the paperbacks. The two hardcover books looked like new. Larry McMurtry has always been one of my favorite western authors and received the Pulitzer Prize for "Lonesome Dove." And, the life and times of George Armstrong Custer has always been one of my favorite topics. "Son of the Morning Star" by Evan Connell was a classic in itself and is mentioned in this book that I bought today by McMurtry. The former was a book I found hard to put down. They both begin with his early life and conclude at the battle of the Little Bighorn River. But, I am half way through this new book and, as usual, it is McMurtry at his best. 173 pages of photos and text. As I have varied interests I also purchased the book about the sinking of the cruiser U.S.S. Indianapolis by torpedos in World War II in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine. 300 men died upon impact, close to 900 more were cast into the Pacific where they remained, undetected by the Navy, for nearly five days. By the time they were rescued, accidently, there were only 321 left alive. 4 more would die in a military hospital. Most died from hypothermia and sharks. I had read excerpts of this but never the complete book. And of course, what's a winter evening by the fireplace without a good western novel. "Appaloosa" by Robert B. Parker, a N. Y. Times Bestseller, which was made into the movie, looks to be just the good western novel that I enjoy and has outstanding reviews. Good reading material for $4.25.
