April 18th, 1800...starting to get dialed in

Post by RanchRoper » Mon Apr 18, 2022 5:23 pm

I had a much better 4th outing with the new Frontier .50 cal flintlock.

Today for the first time, things started to fall into place. Better in-between shot routine, only 1 hang-fire and I was able to correct it and know why it happened. After that no issues, every shot went Kaboom. Should see better consistency going forward. It's certainly easier to shoot more accurate when you know it's going to go off. Inconsistency is where the flinching comes from.

38F today and a light breeze. Beautiful day to be at the range.

What a great day, think I am hooked on BP & these old firesticks...

You certainly have gotten to know your rifle. That shooting is almost perfection.

Thanks guys, appreciated the kind words. There is certainly a learning curve with the flintlock. Today turned out to be a small quantum leap for me, as I identified a couple of things that were frustrating me and causing issues. I think the next session I can focus more on my shooting & make sure I stick to the correct sequence of events that set me up for success.

It sure didn’t take you long to get it dialed in. That offhand target is excellent.

I hope you post that on the other forum. There is lots of talkin over there about how good some are. A target like that in the little time you have shot that rifle is truly outstanding

Well done. Never doubted you'd get there and I'm equally confident things will just get better for you. You were made for this kind of shooting.
