Range Report: Henry H003T

Post by Sir Henry » Sat Apr 16, 2022 12:12 pm

I ventured out into the cold and wind to shoot my pump at spinners at 27 yards. I will eventually place it at 25. The rifle wears a Leupold 1.5-4x20 and is perfect for a pump .22LR.

Today I was shooting HV 40 grain RN and the rifle was zeroed for 29 grain HV shorts so it shot an inch high. After three tubes of 15 rounds my fingers were cold and my 10 minutes of making noise was done.

If you look at the center hanger the spinner is sitting on the ground. The metal near the driveway is for pellets and BB’s except for the bell which needs to be taken out further for safety.

I shot a bit more after thawing out. I even shot the stick plate at 31 yards. I can easily move it out to 50 yards when the snow is gone and the frost is out of the ground.

It’s still shooting a little high.

Nice way to spend some time. If the weather will turn here, I'll get started on my range, finally. Glad to see you enjoying the new place Sir.

Thanks. I relocated the plate at 54 yards from my porch which will let me shoot at 50 yards from the driveway. I painted it orange a few minutes ago and in 32 degrees I don’t expect the paint to last long. I brought my rimfire spinner inside to warm up and will take it outside to spray it and then put it out to 50. I’ll be shooting again in an hour.

Okay is my hour up! I painted the spinners and set them out. This picture was taken a few feet in front and shows the minimal distance on top to shoot over the hill. I’ll need to push up a berm by digging into the hillside which will lower the targets a foot and give me dirt for the berm.

That's a nice setup Gene. Once you dig into the hill a bit and dump the dirt behind the targets you'll have a real good shooting range.

54 yards from the porch line. 50 yards from the second line.

My pump started cycling hard. I think some dirt must have gotten into the action. I’ll have to tear it apart before I shoot it again.
