22 Hornet @ 200 yards

Post by Shakey Jake » Fri Apr 15, 2022 2:04 pm

Wanted to try the .22 Hornet at 200 yards today. Below is a pic of my second round. First round rough but I finally got on track. The rifle is a Ruger M77 22 sporting a Burris E1 4.5X14 scope. I was shooting a Hornady 45 gr factory rounds.

That is great shooting from 200 yds Jake! Any slight movement would be huge down at the target.

It's different from shooting 100 yards. I have to thank my son (I refer to him as the general) for getting me off the 100 yard range. It's more challenging for sure. He's shooting is Ruger American 308 at 300 yards. I may try 300 with my 280 or 22-250 the next time I'm out. One has to "qualify" to shoot 300 and beyond. The shooting center gives you a special card to get on the 300 to 600 yard ranges. In essence you have to tell them you're trying to qualify. You pay for two 300 yard targets which are larger than the regular targets but the bull circle is still 6 inches. You have one to take five practice shots on then the other you have to place five shots inside the 6" bull. If you succeed then you "qualify" and can go out to the 300 to 600 yard ranges anytime on your own. I think I can do it with the 22-250 because the rifle and trigger are so good.

Nice job Jake. I see a 300-600 yards range pass in your future.
