Range Report: squirrel at ten yards

Post by Sir Henry » Mon Apr 11, 2022 6:09 pm

I got my farm chores done and drove some stakes into the ground to support my gongs. The snow has melted back enough the frame won’t stand up anymore. I put one squirrel out and started to plink with my Avanti. I’m surprised at how little power it takes to flip the squirrel gong down and back up.

Tomorrow I’ll do some more work setting up frames and gongs around the property. The snow has melted back enough that I can walk almost anywhere.

Good for you, Gene. Yeah, this "heatwave" has been great. The snow has melted enough that I'm going to dig out the shooting benches, tomorrow.

I went into Ladysmith today and they didn’t have any snow. Ogema had a little and then 400 feet higher on the hill where I’m at there is still a lot on the north slopes and the dense forest. I still have two foot dense frozen drifts.

I noticed when I drove the stakes into the ground near the surface it was fine then I hit where it’s still frozen.

Hey - can you tell me about that cowbell? Is it a cowbell or a flat piece of steel shaped like a cowbell? If it’s a cowbell does it stand up to .22’s? Where’d you get it?

Thanks!

Purchased on Amazon. It is three dimensional and is .22LR rated. I suspect after 500 hits it might be toast. You can tell the difference between rimfire and pellet hits. It makes a cool ding when it’s hit.

Nice to see that snow receding. Hope your warm temps continue and that white dirt goes away. Nice looking setup, non stop fun!
