Favorite Coffee
I read the Morning Coffee and Weather thread every day, and it's a big thread, to say the least. Too big to reread it all to get an answer to my question.
I used to brew my own, however, I've been on a Cold Frappacino kick fo a while now. Gonna go back to my auto drip Mr. Coffee.
I used to drink Folgers Gormet, but then they either changed the name or just quit making it.
Back to my question.
I know everyone has their own taste, but just wondering what everyone's favorite is, if you care to chime in.

Re: Favorite Coffee
I use Costco Brand Bold K-cups. I've heard some of Costco's coffee is rebranded Starbucks. I'm sure there's better coffee out there but although I can drink black coffee I prefer it with flavored creamer so it probably doesn't make a lot of difference what brand I use.

Re: Favorite Coffee
Don't drink coffee anymore. But, when I did, my most favored was Jamaican Blue Mountain.

Re: Favorite Coffee
I have two coffee beans i grind.
The first is a Guatemalan light roast.
https://camanoislandcoffee.com/shop-for ... ght-roast/
The second is a Papua New Guinea
https://camanoislandcoffee.com/shop-for ... ght-roast/
Camano island roasts the top 1% of beans. It sounds as snobish as it its. to put it in perspective, a place like Starbucks has to over roast their beans to hide the bitterness of the rancid beans. In a 1lb batch of Starbucks beans they will have 200 that are either rancid or going rancid. In a 55 gallon tub, Camano might have 2 beans.
It is a smooth coffee, high in the caffeine octane. People mistakenly think the darker the roast, the more caffeine. The exact opposite is true. The darker the roast, the more time in heat is needed in the roasting; it breaks down the caffeine. The light roasts from Camano are something to behold.
If anyone is interested in trying it, here is a referral link.

Re: Favorite Coffee
I never really went straight black often. Although, early morning, before bird hunting I would. Usually I prefer a little cream and a little sugar, however, if I find a bean I really like, perhaps I could go black and be satisfied. I was never a coffee snob, but I might become one at my old age.
Interesting what DsGrouse said about the caffeine. I would have thought the opposite, so thank you!

Re: Favorite Coffee
I suspect that my transition from the sweet iced coffee back to regular will require some cream and sugar at first.

Re: Favorite Coffee
I might give it a try, search says around 60 tablespoons in a lb. of coffee so at about $20@lb that's comparable to kcup pods from Costco if you use re-usable pods, pretty expensive if you buy it from them already in pods at $63 for 64 pods.DsGrouse wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 6:49 pmI have two coffee beans i grind.

I have bought pods from Angelino's Coffee which is supposed to be a lot fresher, it's OK drinking it black but while it does smell a lot better brewing it's nothing spectacular. They do say that by the time you buy coffee at the store it's been months since it was roasted.
Re: Favorite Coffee
It is, and if you like a darker roast, a Columbian or an Indonesian light roast will get you there. Kenyan/Ethiopian are also good choices.
To put this in perspective, we have been customers since 2007, and get 2lbs of Gueatemaland light and 2lbs of Papua New Guinea every 6 weeks. When I run out, I try other brands. Folders, cafe du monde Sanka, Bustelo, Chickory, illy, green mountain, Oregon and Washington regional rosters, CT and long island roasters, A half dozen rosters around here in VA. They do not compare.

I live in VA now, but when I lived in WA and Or, I would get my coffee two days after it was roasted. In CT it would arrive 4 days after, In VA it is seven.dave77 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 8:03 pm

You can ask for it ground, or use a grinder like mine.

Yes, we take our coffee seriously. I french pressed our coffee until this last month when i bought a new coffee maker. It is as good as coffee from my french press.

Re: Favorite Coffee
Just me and I only have a large cup every morning and often a cup in the late afternoon or evening so I would think 2 lbs should last me a month or more.
Re: Favorite Coffee
When I was still working Kcups worked for me but they are expensive for what you can brew from a bulk can or bag.. 8 o’clock coffee the Columbian blend is my favorite. I also drink it black. Once in a great while I might have cream in it but not very often. I told myself along time ago if you’re gonna drink coffee drink it black and I learned to like it that way. Took a while but I like it black

Interesting that you say that Al. The remaining bag in my cabinet is, in fact 8 o'clock columbian. Quite a bit left, but, has been sitting for about a year.BigAl52 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 11:12 pmWhen I was still working Kcups worked for me but they are expensive for what you can brew from a bulk can or bag.. 8 o’clock coffee the Columbian blend is my favorite. Re: Favorite Coffee
Tina and I used to drink two or three cups every morning, but in the last six to eight months she rarely finishes her cup, she is too busy to even sit and enjoy a full cup of coffee. (by choice, mind you.)
She loved the McD coffee and had it on subscription from Amazon. (Found out this morning it was called McCafe) It's supposed to be the same coffee you get at McDonalds but I never cared one way or another. I was happy with Folgers or Maxwell House. I started noticing that the pot had dark sludge in the bottom of the pot with the McCafe Dark Roast and since she wasn't really drinking that much coffee any more I told her to cancel the Amazon Subscription to the McCafe stuff. I drink two or three mugs of coffee a day, so just get a one pound can of Maxwell House and Folgers and I'd tell her which to order. I tried both, and told her to order Folgers. BUT... the reviews of the large cans of Folgers and Maxwell House on Amazon lean toward them both arriving stale about half the time... so we'll pick those up at the grocery stores when we go and they have them. For Now... Folgers it is.
I have never cared for fancy coffees, or fancy additives. I take moo juice and a couple sugars in my mug.
Edit: put the corrected name of the fake micky d's coffee in.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Re: Favorite Coffee
The cheapest K-cup brand I can find. Folgers is good. Coffee isn’t really my drink of choice. Not when I can get a latte. Right now the nearest is 13 miles away so I’m thinking of getting a good drip system going and grind my own. I’ve been having coffee a lot with neighbors and they put my coffee to shame.

Re: Favorite Coffee
spend the money on a proper burr grinder, like the one I linked above. 30 dollar burr grinders that you find at Costco or sams club still heat up the beans releasing the flavor.
Start with a simple french press.
like this, I have 3 of their older models and they are as old as my burr grinder.
https://www.amazon.com/Bodum-Tribute-St ... 161&sr=8-5
with the grinder I linked, my french press regimen was eleven steps and is as follows.
1 Grind 4 cups, 3 three ticks off course. ( no espresso grind in french press.)
2 Put grounds in the bottom of the french press.
3 Ad 1/3rd the amount of grounds in COLD water. (you want the coffee to bloom, and wetting it with a bit of cold water helps it bloom. like a couple of drops of well water in a good whisky)
4 Let grounds sit while you heat your water up to boiling; I used an electric kettle set to 212.
5 When water boils, pour it over the coffee ground until you are 7/8ths away from the pour spout.
6 Put the filter plunger on the grounds and push the air out. Do not plunge the press more than just enough to fully wet the grounds.
7 Fill the french press the rest of the way with the hot water.
8 Set the lid down and wait three minutes.
9 Plunge french press fully.
10 Pour coffee into IV bag.
11 Open up the IV, and let it flow straight into your veins.
Steps 10 and 11 you have to work up to.

My wife gets coffee from Amazon. I don't know what the name of it is or where it comes from. Tastes like coffee.
