It does. I ended physical therapy at the beginning of March. I still remember the first day. I was beat. The second time was not much better. After that, I got stronger and stronger. The worst was the wrap in the frozen thing. I really was uncomfortable and asked not to have it again. It was torture like.
Towards the end I was moving from station to station on my own, without much input from the therapist. He would observe me for a bit and say how well I was doing. I was in therapy from Mid October until first of March. I transitioned from the walker, to a cane and then nothing. Each exercise was designed to get me back to where I had been. Aside from the hardware permanently residing inside, everything else is good.

I tried to view therapy as a positive thing. Every visit got me closer to walking without a walker and I kept it up on my own and threw the cane away. It will get better more quickly now.

Rejoice everyone! The cast is off! Now I have the walking boot. Such a strange thing. It has these balloon type things inside to help stabilize the ankle. And a curved sole to help with walking. There's a liner that wraps from my foot all the way up my leg to right below the knee. I have to gradually stop using the scooter. Speaking of the boys were using it around the hospital today...

Don't overdo it now that you have a walking boot. You don't want to set back your recovery. My wife broke her ankle years ago, and as soon as she got the walking boot tried to go back to HER old ways. (Farm Wife) Nope. Her recovery was a series of two steps forward, one step back. Or was it, one step forward, two steps back? Doc finally threatened to put a hard cast back on to slow her down a bit....

Cool. The advice still stands. (Even if you can't. )
If the docs say, "No more than 5 mins at a time..." Listen. We WANT to do more and more, but sometimes it's best to go slow.
Eventually they will start to push if they feel you aren't giving it enough... but early on, they will try and hold you back.
Yeah.... twenty eight (twenty nine?) surgeries and at least 60 percent needed major post surgical PT to recover, been there done that.

*** I thought I had it bad, my neighbor up the road had an industrial accident and had to have more than 40 related to that one incident.... in a two year period..

Slow and steady will get you to a satisfactory outcome. In a few months you will be doing things more normally than you think.

I hear that, after my motorcycle accident it was around 6 months before I could start walking with a cane. It was all crutches or a wheelchair as I couldn't bear any weight on my foot.

Set back; The boot rubbed on my incision and opened it a bit. After seeing the doctor, it's not infected, and I have to put a wet/dry wrap on it daily.
No boot and back on the scooter for 3 weeks.

I had light up streamers in it. They snapped off, oh well.
