Ruger Single Ten

Post by zara_puppy » Mon Mar 28, 2022 10:02 pm

I’d posted in the Handgun area a desire for a Ruger Single Ten. Dang things are fairly rare out there these days. After an extensive search I found one in a little shop in PA. And at a decent price. So first trip to the range I started at 25 yards using CCI Standards. 2.5” circle on an 8.5” piece of printer paper. Ten shots. Only two on the paper. :(

I moved to ten yards - same target. This time Winchester Suoer X, 40 grain HP’s at 1,290 FPS. Every shot was high. No change of sights - just a lower point of aim. All ten in the circle, but high. In thirty rounds I had two failure to fire. I attribute that to newness (it was new in the box). There’s one chamber that’s a bit snug - but just a bit. A good polishing should take care of it. That and about a thousand rounds. :D Anyway - the pics...

That’s a beauty! Good group at ten yards and no doubt that when you’ve spent more time you will tighten it up.
That 8" circle at 25 yards must look like a dime.
Load on Sunday and Shoot all Week.......okay it's a Mare's Leg I will reload on Wednesday. ;)

Yeah, 25 yards is asking a lot for an unsighted in gun. That 10 yards group looks great and once you get it dialed in you’ll do fine at 25. That’s one fine looking ten shooter.

The paper was 8 inches. The circle was 2 1/2”. And yep - it looked like a dime. I’ll need to thicken the border of the circle some to make it easier to see. Wish I had Ranch Roper’s eyes - not only can he (apparently) see a mosquito’s butt at 100 yards he can hit it with a round ball - off hand.
