Sight in Marlin 39-A and Springfield M1-A

Post by Hatchdog » Thu Mar 17, 2022 10:16 am

I changed scopes on these two rifles so had to sight in. Yesterday was a work day at the range for High Power shooters doing spring clean-up and target electronic scoring calibration. I arrived early to sight in these two plus do some handgun work. Got the two rifles done but ran out of time for the handguns, should have arrivered earlier. I didn’t bore sight either rifle and it was quite the chore to get a shot on paper at 50 yards with either. The Marlin was so far off that I had to “fudge” the range rules a bit and take a shot in between the target stands aiming at the dirt bank behind the 100 yard targets. Found I was about 3 ft low, good ole dirt tells the real story. Anyway, felt good to get behind a rifle again. Winter sucks!

Here’s the Marlin at 50 yards bagged on a bench with a 7x scope. Had a couple of leakers to the right. CCI Mini-mag HP.

And the M1-A at 100 yards bagged on a bench with a 12x scope. 7.62 brass H4895 and the Hornady 155 gr BTHP Palma bullet.

I’ll give them a try next time out. This Marlin is my go to for ground squirrels and I like using the HP’s for them. My wife and I are planning to getting out for some squirrel hunting this spring after a couple of years of not doing so.
