Yeah, that was about as bad an ice storm over the weekend as I've seen up here. Out driveway is so slick, it's hard for our dog to walk it without sliding. back roads are still a mess, but then main roads are pretty decent.

We just got the Yaktrax, good enough for freezing rain or icy hard surfaces, you might need something more aggressive judging from your photos.

Glad to hear it’s not happening every year. The deep snow isn’t too bad however the ice is too dangerous.

I have two pair of those. Now to find out where they are. Wind and snow right now so I’m staying inside for the moment.

Glad to hear it’s not happening every year. The deep snow isn’t too bad however the ice is too dangerous.

We rarely get freezing rain here and when we do it's usually pretty light. I would much rather see snow. When I was still working I would have to go in early and all the roads would not have been sanded yet so it was a slick drive. At least they would do a late start but I still had to get everything sanded before the staff started showing up.

I would have to put down probably a couple of hundred pounds of sand and de-icer, all a handful at a time. Later on I had a tractor that could carry a couple of 5 gallon buckets, but before that it was carry a bucket in one hand and throw it down with the other. Also toward the end of my career we got a new maintenance supervisor and he would send the maintenance guys out to help.

I think I mentioned before how once after a big snowstorm I went down to the maintenance shop and the guys were all complaining about how tired they were and I asked them if their fingers were sore from working the plow joystick while sitting in their heated trucks. At that time I didn't have a tractor so I had just spent several hours running a snowblower.

I’m looking at A-frame hangers for steel gongs and the biggest complaint I’m hearing is the stands won’t hold up to a lot of hits. I wondering if instead of making a bullet proof frame it might be easier to just build a bigger frame. This child’s swing is ten feet tall and would give me several feet clearance instead of inches.

It would also give me the clearance on the bottom. Where I’m thinking of putting it the snow has drifted to over two feet. This swing would allow me to shoot in the winter. I’ve found several not as big for as low as $200. This one runs $800. I’m thinking I should get what I need and forget the cost.

Gene, I'm not sure about your swing set idea. It makes sense. I must agree completely with your sentiments of get what you need regardless of the cost. That way you end up with what you wanted with no regrets. If you can't afford it, don't think about it in the first place.

I’m going to buy it or another one similar to it. Might buy another smaller one also for shooting pellets off the front deck.

Same as all the others I’ve seen with little clearance. It’s also not very wide or high.

I’ve thought about those Al. The price sure makes them in the run however by the time I buy the lumber I’m going to be back up to several hundred dollars. What I like about the swing set is it will support 800 pounds of kinetic weight. I really need the height for the winter snow. And being ten feet across gives me room for lots of spinners and traps. Plus I just plain like making things out of repurposed materials.

Since the snow had melted back in spots I was able to walk the property more. I hung the blast bottles in a tree.

They are 30 yards from my from deck. I’m not sure this is where I want to shoot them. They need to go further to the right where there is no tree.

Range looks like it’s coming along as well as can be with the weather conditions you have. However, it’s nice to see some ground starting to peek out from under all that white dirt.

Unfortunately those dark spots are mostly mud. I moved the motor home and this is the top of my driveway.

Now that I’ve moved the motor home it’s opened up another shooting area. The trap is 13 yards and the spinner is 14.

The reset spinner was the only one above the snow to shoot. After a few hits it fell over in the soft snow.

I took five shots at paper. The lower right hole is two shots. I was shooting my SGC offhand.

I bought more things to shoot with .22 rimfire. I’m not sure where I’ll end up putting stuff and I’ll need some way of laying them out. In the meantime I’m getting a good collection.

The bike was great in the mud. I might take it out on the road tomorrow. There is so little traffic in the area I can safely walk or ride my bike.

I walked out in the fields to get an idea how deep the snow is. In places where it hasn’t drifted or melted it’s still about a foot deep. Then again I can run into drifts that are three feet deep. I need to know where the drifts are so when I set targets out in the summer that they won’t be covered in the winter.
