About ten years ago, my cuz sent me a picture of my G'father with another cuz when she was a little girl. I had never seen a picture of him, nor knew his name. My mother would periodically refer to him as my dad in passing, but I never met him as he passed two years after I was born. This started me on my new hobby, getting to know my extended family. Found a free app to download to save all info I found called Legacy which could be expanded for a fee. It has turned out to be a great investment as I am still learning to use all the features. Discovered the Family Center at an LDS Church that had free access to computer with various sites like Ancestry and many more. Since that time, I have discovered family branches of my tree going back to the 1600's and to Old World countries like Poland-Russia, France and England. Closer to home, my family comes from Arizona and old Mexico. Amongst the interesting things that appeal to me has been the documents that I have found, not only the info, but the actual signatures of my family from the last few centuries. There are many real-life stories that I have found about my family, stories about a judge, several sea captains, farmers, militia and merchants. This hobby has become a never ending story. It gives me a lot of joy when I discover something new and I feel like a detective who has found a clue in a mystery and it makes me want to shout, "EUREKA!" I have done so and it gives me a great feeling of exhilaration. There have been many surprises as to which way my journey has taken me. I just hope my offspring and other relations appreciate the work/joy I have put into this. I have gotten a couple of much younger family members involved and have shared many stories and discoveries.

My wife has done a lot of genealogy research on both her family and mine. She has lots of stories, pictures etc. Her family is the more colorful. One of her ancestors owned Malibu beach at one time. Nearly all of it. One of my ancestors invented the modern flute.

I've posted this before, but this is a picture of my grandfather, who I knew, as a cowboy in Montana just before WWI.
