Timms Hill
This telephoto picture is of Timms Hill and was taken from my front deck. It’s sometimes spelled with an apostrophe especially newer usage.
I want to climb the towers however that will have to wait till I get snowshoes and and climb to its base.

I’m out in the middle of nowhere yet am within a mile of this fine restaurant. I’ve driven by several times but haven’t stopped.

My mailing address is Ogema however I’m actually in the Town of Hill.

Re: Timms Hill
Gene, that is a pretty neat feature to be near. I ordered a pair of snowshoes from a fellow in New Hampshire who should be making them as this is posted. I'll bet there are a few fine folks in Wisconsin who make them.
As far as that restaurant, I'm with Al. Eggs and hash, mmm and then fresh walleye, wow.

The Rail Trail Cafe in Ogema is more my style. I can sit at the counter and talk to other people. They are closed on. Mondays.

Restaurants in small towns are a very big deal, socially. Pick one and get to work.

One thing about cafes in small towns the food will be good or they wont survive. The fish fry on Friday night would get me in there regular

Re: Timms Hill
Ah, if it's the only place in the small town, the place can be nasty, the waitresses worse, and the food barely passable, and most people will still come in... Since the next place is more than thirty minutes away. The diner in our small town was terrible, we saved a bundle by NOT eating out on the spur of the moment, but it was always packed for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Old farmers with no time to cook or too dang tired. Bachelors too lazy, or those who hated the empty house or just liked to gossip.
They eventually got a decent cook, but the ceilings were yellow from years of smoking, the walls greasy, and the tables original. The old geezer who owned it wouldn't fix or upgrade anything. Didn't pay the staff to stay and clean...
Small town, inspectors didn't get paid much by the county...
Not saying they took bribes...
But the restaurant stayed open.

The Rail Trail Cafe is fantastic! The food is great, it’s clean and the customers are more like family.BrokenolMarine wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 3:08 pmAh, if it's the only place in the small town, the place can be nasty, the waitresses worse, and the food barely passable, and most people will still come in... Re: Timms Hill
I gathered that from all the posts. In most cases the rule is true. One of our favorite stops to/from our smallmouth floats on the James River was the little Cafe in Fork Union, VA just across from Fork Union Military Academy. Great food, great staff, homemade cakes and pies...Sir Henry wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 3:51 pmThe Rail Trail Cafe is fantastic! I realize I probably made a blanket statement but this has been my experience in small towns. There are always exceptions to the rule. Im sorry to hear yours there isnt that way. They would get no business from me no matter how tired I was.BrokenolMarine wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 3:08 pmAh, if it's the only place in the small town, the place can be nasty, the waitresses worse, and the food barely passable, and most people will still come in...
