​we have a 500 gallon propane tank at our home .... it provides propane for our house's instant hot water system .... in addition, we attach a rubber hose from it to our camper .... during power outages, we fire the camper's generator and move in .... rather than winterizing, we also leave the camper's propane furnace on during sub freezing temps .... about every three or so years we have it filled .... last week the propane level in the tank fell below 40% so we called and arranged to have it filled .... the last time we filled it, propane cost us about $1.25 a gallon .... this time, it cost $2.93 a gallon .... so, 234.5 gallons cost us $689.09 + $48.81 for state and local taxes = $736.90 .. .... lets just say, that was most certainly a jolt​

So if you let it close to empty it would cost over a $1000 to fill, Ouch!

We were thinking of getting a 120 gallon tank for my friends 5th wheel but they wanted to charge a $100 delivery fee on top of the cost of the propane. Will continue to haul our tanks to be filled. We have 4 - 33# tanks so fill 3 empties at a time. She runs a couple of electric space heaters so unless we have a very cold snap that will last her around 3 weeks, several months when she's not having to use the propane furnace. Also have 4 - 20# tanks for our emergency generator. We have pretty dependable power here, longest power outage I can remember was less than a day and even short outages are very rare.

that is precisely the reason we have tried to refill it at around the 50% mark .... this time we didn't get around to it until it crossed below 40%

We just topped off our 500 gal tank at $2.89/gal. My wife manages the finances and was not a happy camper. We were at about 47% and took 151 gals., but we want it near full for our generator. Just in case the power goes off for a few days. Happened last year with the ice storm and we were out for almost 5 days.

What can you do when you're caught between a rock and a hard place. Friends with natural gas tell me they are getting sticker shock every month.

We heat the house and water heater with propane. I also have a propane furnace in my shop.
Altogether we have storage capacity of 1500 gallons on the premises. We pre purchase our
propane in August for the Winter. This year the contract price was $1.74 a gallon. We pre bought
three thousand gallons. The truck was here two days ago to top us off and he told me the price.
I feel bad for folks who don't have the ability to pre buy.
So now we have about 1200 gallons on hand and another thousand to be yet delivered, but with
20 below this morning we're drinking it up pretty quickly.

Yeah Paul, we are familiar with those damging ice storms here as well.

We heat with propane here in NYS and we paid $3.99 Per here. Just started using an additional electric heater during the day in the living room.

I just spoke with sister in the Adirondacks and she claims $1.75 a gallon. They belong to a co-op and get their propane from Ferrellgas.

My natural gas cost has gone up. We purchased two electric free standing fire stove heaters that look like real fire. (sort of) They are the safest to have around with the baby just at that age and they can be brought just about anywhere. I haven't heard of any energy sources not going up except maybe self harvested wood.

My wife heard a report on the national news that thefts of split stacked firewood from people’s yards are on the uptick. It’s a crazy world we live in when our firewood isn’t safe.

We have ten acres of oak and Ash that needs thinning. In the past I've had folks that came and cut firewood but they all
got too old or died. Maybe some new ones will appear with the cost of fuel. We burn some wood and our son in law also
has a wood stove in the city, but there's still a lot of wood laying dead. Come on over.

Wish you were closer, I’d love to have some hardwood to burn. Our pine out here burns hot and fast and makes a nice fire but the btu rating is much lower than your Oak and Ash. Oh well, the price is right, only fuel for the chainsaw and splitter and a little sweat. The sweat is good for me.

We have Oak Wilt killing mostly the Red Oaks, and the Emerald Ash Borer has made its appearance here and is slowly killing
all my Ash trees. The woods is gradually being taken over with mostly White Oak which is pretty much immune to the wilt and
Hickory which is also a good hard wood. We also have a few Maple and Cherry.

The Ash grows in areas with a lot of moisture, so they don't retain a lot and can be burned within a couple weeks of being
cut. The problem is the bark has to be removed before transporting anywhere.

I have all the equipment to cut and split the wood and will gladly help anyone who wants to put in the sweat equity.
