This season IV doesn't seem to be following up very much how season III ended. Lots of filler material, but, no real substance as to what happened.
They have three more episodes to keep the interest alive.

the scenery is beautiful but it doesn't look much like Montana. It looks like parts of Utah, Wyoming and Idaho to me.
The ranch is near Darby MT (SW corner, due south of Missoula), that is a stunning valley, well worth a visit. But that town is also the gateway to the wild and wonderful https://offroadingpro.com/magruder-corridor/ which does indeed look like Idaho. The ranch is a real operation, but it is booked solid so don’t plan on visiting any time soon. The rest is shot in Utah.

I’ve been through Darby. The whole Bitterroot River basin is amazing. Great fly fishing too.

Love the show. I’m not bothered by any of the cussing or violence. It’s a TV show for goodness sakes. It wouldn’t be nearly as entertaining if it were abunch of cowpokes walking around “begging your pardon”...

I know Beth still wears a scare, but other than that nothing much other than Jamie's real dad, sorry the name escapes me at the moment.
Other than him admitting he was involved.
We'll see.

That smart alecky guy that took Jimmy is Taylor Sheridan; creator of the series. At least thats what the credits say.
But, in the end, it is TV. We watch or we don't.
Yes. Taylor Sheridan is an accomplished rider in his own right. He was inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame.

Regarding location, it is the Chief Joseph Ranch, indeed in Darby. Just outside of Hamilton.
