Blackjack 22 Mag belly gun test

Post by fortyshooter » Fri Dec 03, 2021 7:22 pm

The full build story I placed in the Handgun section but here is the first shots thru my little project!

Ammo was CCI .22 Maxi Mag 30 gr. hollow point and Maxi Mag 30 gr. TNT hollow point. The plan was to setup a paper target at about 5 yds to see if I could hit anything without a front sight. First 5 shots were to the right with center to a bit high elevation. I had a Jack Of Spades in center of target and managed to get a good hit in center with a bit of Kentucky windage! Later was able to hit a couple cans which was fun.

Next was a ballistic gel test to see which CCI hollow point ammo would perform the best out of the 2 inch barrel. The Maxi Mag TNT has shown to fully expand at speeds of 1100-1200 FPS even though it is rated at 2000 FPS out of a rifle or longer barreled pistol. The plain Maxi Mag HP is 30 gr. just like the TNT and was very surprised to see how the Maxi Mag totally out gunned the TNT by going thru the 16 inch gel block leaving two permanent wound cavities one at the beginning and one just before it exited the block! The TNT gave a good full expansion but stopped at around 6 1/2 inch of travel.
Now it would most likely work better in a rifle for more speed.

The Blackjack 22 Mag belly gun was fun to shoot and the cool little ejector rod worked great!

Note: That little dice is the head of the ejector rod that is stored in the butt of grip panel !

That could make quite the snake gun with some 22 mag shot loads.

Interesting on the difference in the gel test. Be curious what some other 22 mag loads would do such as some of the 22 mag self-defense loads designed for pistols.

I'd be interested in a gel test using Hornady Critical Defense in that gun, if you find a round toit. ;) I've seen a video of it from a LCR, which is what I have.
Bellum Omnium Contra Omnes is rapidly becoming a reality (11/2023). Para Bellum.

I checked out a couple Youtube videos on 22 Mag ammo test with short barreled pistols and saw the same result where some of the easier to expand ammo would not travel far into the gel block. In some cases a regular 22 LR lead round would go much further. Just like a .38 Special a wad cutter works best in short small caliber revolvers. What was interesting was the secondary cavity near end of block with the Maxi Max non TNT round!

Way off topic but I got a kick out of the label on that bottle. Old Leghumper, reminds me of our new pup. He is very “attracted” to my wife’s leg but seems to leave me alone. Little does he know that when the time is right he will be visiting the vet…..

Old Leghumper…..gotta love these labels. I have a bottle of Angry Bastard beer down in my reloading room.

That Leghumper beer has a funny story behind it. Some years ago a neighbor down the street had a big party and he had several craft beers available.
Well after the party he gave some of the various beers to his next door neighbor who is also a friend of mine.
On one hot afternoon me and a few others were over at his place and everybody's attention was drawn to the Leghumper beer and a dare...double dare
situation got started on which one of us would try a bottle of it. Well guess who didn't chicken out?
The taste of it was like a Budwiser poured into an old leather boot left to sit in the sun with a piece of pine bark in it....awful! But after several
swallows it kind of mellowed out! I kept two of the empty bottles!

Now about the little Blackjack 22... I like it too!
