Found a spot for my new range
Found a spot for my new range
Had a range set up that was really nice. Deep woods and natural hills. It was islolated. Problem was a few years back, a flood took everything including my steeltargets. I was only able to find one of 8. Washed the road out with the shooting benches. I intended to build back but I had a medical issue that now makes that place a bit too much. I can still use my buddies places but it's a rough drive through several keyed gates.
I wanted a place close in where I can go whenever I want but easier than before or even now at my friends. Anyway, I can set up a minimum of 500 yds and could go out to 1000yds but I doubt I'll do it. I can always set up a spot or two further out. Anyway, just a 10 minutes from my home, access from the highway. Will set up with steel at 500 and steel 100 yrds in to 200 where I'll have steel and paper for zeroing. Same at 100 and 50. Inside 25 I'll have a pistol setup with texas star, bottles, bowling pins and other steel reactive targets. I'll put a large tuff shed there as well with shooting benches under awning. Have heat/electical/ac and a bunk in the shed ran by Gen that I'll bring on my trailer.
Here's a couple of pics. I'll need to get better so I can get on a dozer to get everything pushed up but don't have the strength yet.

Nice, i have a smaller 70 to 100 yard range on my property. This is another reconstruction year for me. My berm needs to go up a couple of feet

Congrats on your new range area! Lots of room to grow there too.

Re: Found a spot for my new range
Looks like a very nice layout. Don't know what I'd do with 300 yards.
Okay, yes I do. Work the 308 a lot.
I had a nice 70 yard range at my farm in VA with a solid range house with a shooting deck out front. I had steel targets, and frames for cardboard ipsc and ppc targets. It was sweet. One of the requirements for a new place in OK was room for a 100 yard range. I haven't gotten there yet...
but I have it laid out and the range house is up and all my steel is stored. The railroad ties are standing by. When my broken wrist fully heals... I'll be back on track to finish the berm.
So yeah, I know exactly how you feel.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Looking at this on my cpu, you are a far more agile man than I. I don't know how you can shoot on the side of a hill like that.

Congrats. Having a good location for some quality trigger time is wonderful.

LOL,
My range is in dire need of a rebuild. I had a number of trees limbs fall on my plate racks and ruin them.
From prior to the storm.

Re: Found a spot for my new range
We had a nice spot for a few years where we could shoot 1500 yards. Then the guy sold the place and the new owner I guess was anti gun. But we still have a 500 yard range jut up the hill from my place.. johnny
