Some .45 Colt Lever Action.......

Post by fortyshooter » Thu Nov 04, 2021 12:07 pm

Took my 3 lever action .45 Colt guns to the range yesterday for some competition between them.

The Uberti/Winchester 1873 ..... the Henry BBS Color Case Carbine... and the Rossi Ranch Hand with 9 inch barrel all seem to shoot and function very well as long as I can get a good clear view of the front sights and hold steady. All had different sights with the typical buckhorn on the 1873...my Ghost Ring insert on the Henry and my much modified sights on the Ranch Hand.
I would start the fun with one shot on the big tombstone gong....one shot on the paper plate target at a point where I could determine from each rifle and then try a small pumpkin shot with each rifle. Some interesting results there as you will see. https://youtu.be/yvGcKnp7d5s :D
Later I took some 40 yd shots at the paper plate target with the Henry Carbine to try and fill in the orange bulls eye.

The load for all was the MB 250 gr Cowboy 45 Colt bullet loaded with 8.5 Unique. All shot well and the rifle bores were all clean of residue/lead after an afternoon of shooting.
Shooting those small 3 inch pumpkins was a challenge from 20-30 yds depending on any sun glare I got on the sights but it all worked out well!
Had a great afternoon with the Lever Action 45's ! That Ranch Hand I have massaged over the years and it runs and load really smooth and slick!

The picture of the target shows the one shot for each rifle where the rifles are sitting.

Yes and I don't think they make the Ranch Hand anymore.

I picked up a lightly used one in 45 colt about this time last year at a pretty fair price.
Very nice shooter too I might add, and I prefer it to the Marlin Cowboy. :o

Saw a new Rossi 1873 at the LGS last week. They wanted $1299. Not for me thanks.

Thanks for watching! I looked around on Gun Broker and was surprised to see the Ranch Hand going for 800-1000 bucks. Looking around I see the Rossi R92 rifles now in the $800 range too. I spent about $450 for my 45 Colt Ranch Hand some years ago and plan on holding on to it.

Dangit, Boy. Got a pair of Rossi's, a long barreled 357 and 20" model 45 colt.
The 357 I've had for several years, man I don't have a grand in the pair. ;)
