The Rifleman Modified Trigger

I DVR The Rifleman on Starz which airs daily without commercials. Totally nostalgic and entertaining escapism.

Today's episode was Season 3 : Episode 14.

In it, Lucas McCain held his rifle so that another passenger on the coach could examine it (it was loaded, he said). He showed her the trigger modification that fired a round each time the rifle was cycled.

It was a notable scene in the series; at least for me. I didn't know the series ever recognized the modification to his rifle. I knew the rifle was modified for the Series' Opening Introduction, but not that it had become part of the Rifleman's storyline throughout the series. Totally missed that.

Anyway, Here's a screenshot of the modification.

Cool idea for rapid fire. I'd be worried that screw would pull the trigger before the lever was fully locked into battery.. Not much room for error

Yep that has to be set right on timing with the bolt and it better not move! Wonder how they kept it locked in place? Plus be very careful handling it loaded! It is tempting to do with an extra lever and I know somebody that could do it.

That would be cool on my little Ranch Hand!

In the series pilot the opening scene which is almost undetectable from the series Connors did not have the set screw. He liked firearms and shooting and would often plink in between scenes. Compare that with what is happening in the news now.

In the opening scene you hear twelve shots. Remarkable for a rifle that only holds seven.

I have seen other lever actions in the past with a flip up tab that allowed for selective rapid fire. It was placed on the lever so that it contacted the trigger just as the lever locked and pulled the trigger. But fold the tab down flat against the top of the inside of the lever, and the tab passed under the trigger with no contact. Single shot again.

I watched that the other day as well. I believe it was the one with the older women as a "bounty" hunter.
