What happened to U-haul for $29 a day?? That was back in the 70's though, lol.

I see where you said it would be too large for you and how you like making trips (not me, lol), but my idea would be to buy a used older model like the top one above for about $6,000 and then sell it for $6,000 once you get there.

Towing a trailer though sounds good. You could always sell that one too once you would be done with it.

Those are $40K-$60K trucks. I’m not sure I would want to take a 15 year old van with 375K miles on it across the country. That is what you get for $6K.

That wouldn't bother me as long as the truck was in good condition. I've done it before, lol, but it's all how you would feel about it, of course. We're just the suggestors here. (Is that a word? lol)

Pretty country up there. We used to go to the Chippewa Flowage fishing every summer.
You do have to put up with those cheese heads though.

I guess I missed the change, why did you decided to go to WI instead of MT, what was the deciding factor? There sure is a huge difference in scenery, climate, and social standards. The high humidity and flat terrain in WI would drive me nuts.... Maybe I am biased, I got shot at by a drunk outside a hotel in Wisconsin....

Montana got to expensive. I would have to spend $700 for every $1,000 I received from my home. In Wisconsin I only have to spend $400. I can argue glacial carved mountains views or peace and solitude and a latte nearby.

As Maurice Herzog said after losing almost all of his fingers and toes as the first person to climb an 8,000m peak “there will be other Annapurnas”.

My last garage sale fetched $4,400! A good yard art sale might reach $10K. In the meantime I’m shopping for a Sprinter V6 4X4. I figure I will need something big to get around.

I found a 2011 350 LWB Hi-top that was converted into a 15 passenger limo. I’ve driven past it hundreds of times as it was only five miles away. The Mercedes plastic in the cab is bulletproof as is the seats and show light wear. The aftermarket interior in the back is junk and well worn and torn. I removed all but a couple seats so it now seats four with a huge padded cargo area.

Since it wasn’t any good as a luxury vehicle I bought it cheap for the condition and mileage. The seats that I tore out must have weighed 800 ponds. Underneath I need to remove another 800 pounds of secondary heating and a/c for the back.

Looks like a nice score perfect for your needs. As big as it is maybe you could build an interior BB gun range to enjoy during your travels.

Now where in Cheese land are you moving too, and are you now a Packers fan?

I would be cautious about removing the secondary HVAC stuff, it will be VERY hard to heat/ cool the back otherwise in winter and summer. If you are OK with having cargo not conditioned, you could install a fixed safety/ collision barrier behind the front seats to trap the air there. (Having a van full of cargo and no barrier is a great way to die quickly….I would install a Raingler net before I drove a mile with loose stuff in back.) Removing all that expensive HVAC gear will seriously affect the resale value. Somebody who wants to make a camper out of it would LOVE to have that stuff preinstalled.

At least you have an easy way to carry all the old stuff to the dump, or do you plan to sell it cheap on Craigslist? That might take too long. Do you know the payload on your truck? Maybe 4000 pounds? How are the mechanical parts?

My payload is 5,000 pounds which includes all of the bus aftermarket parts. I figure I can carry 3,500. I left the seat behind the drivers because it makes a good headache bar as a trucker would call it. It’s not perfect but I. The case will will. I’ve thought about outta factory bar in. Right now I’m concentrating on packing and I don’t know where I’m going.
