Cimarron Pistolero at the Range

Headed out to the range today to try out my latest addition. Weather was about perfect with the temp. 70-72 F and humidity as 32%, a very lite breeze and sunny. Well under these conditions how can you go wrong. The Cimarron Pistolero 357 Mag. just added to this day and is a keeper.

I also took my Henry BBS along just for fun and set up steel at 35 yds. for that. For the Cimarron I set up a paper target at 13.5 yards. I know thats a weird distance, but I put the target out and then go back and check distance with a range finder. Overall between the two firearms I burned up about 150 rounds having fun.

Well that Cimarron pleasantly surprised me with how it performed. Even though I have a big hand with long thin fingers, it fit my hand well. I was using my favorite rifle round of 158 gr. RNFP MB with 7.0 of Universal in a 357 Mag case. Thats a nice mid range load and the Cimarron handled it well. My first 10 rounds are shown on the target below. The one round low left was me not ready for the very light trigger pull. Once I figured that out everything else was good. The sights on any single action Colt style revolver are poor at best. A little notch in the frame and a thin front blade. This is the nature of the old western revolvers.

I don't have a trigger pull gauge, but my guess is the Pistolero has about a 2 lb trigger. Very nice and a very smooth break. This gun is going to make me rethink my Ruger New Model Blackhawk in 45 Colt. The trigger on that is very heavy and I'd be willing to bet about 5 lbs of better. Oh well maybe I'll just have to find another Cimarron in 45 Colt. It can't hurt to have more, can it?

At the end of my paper shooting I tried my hand at the 8" steel set at 35 yds. I managed to hit the plates about 50% of the time. I'm pleased with this purchase.

Looking great Paul! Those Cimarrons hard to beat for the price. You can get a spring kit from Wolff Springs and help out that Ruger.
I have used the trigger and lighter hammer springs on most of my SA Rugers.

Yes, nice work with that Cimarron. All of my Uberti and the one Pietta I have make the average Ruger look bad as far as out of the box triggers.

On New Model Ruger SAs, have you tried the Poor Boy trigger job? Very simple and totally reversible fix and it works wonders. Have been using it for many years and no issues. Just remove one grip and lift the trigger return spring off the post.

Nice shooting! I have a Cimarron Model P in .357 with a Galco cross draw holster - has that same 2 lb or less smooth trigger. Love it!

It's the first thing I do have when I get a new Ruger.

Thanks Forty. In doing some research, it seems Midway carries the complete Wolf spring kit. I'm going to be ordering some stuff from them so I'll add that on.
