Just some point shooting fun with the Ruger BH 44 Special.
Overcast and cool day and just right for some plinking around the range and enjoying early Fall weather. I brought along the Ruger Blackhawk Bisley
.44 Special revolver and decided to try some point shooting from about 8 yds back. Then moved on to steel plinking as I moved around the target area.
Ammo today were my loads of the 240 gr. MB semi wadcutter bullet with either 5 gr. of Red Dot or 7 gr. Unique and both shot very well today.
https://youtu.be/4tl1WL-QmJI short video of point shooting target.
Then a walk down to the creek area to check things out.....sweep the leaves off the creek bridge and check the trail cameras. Was just nice to be out there today! When I checked out one of the camera chips I was delighted to find the fox and turkeys have returned to the creek area once again along with the couple of bucks that like to hang around!

That is one beautiful single action rig, forty, and you shoot that Ruger very well, indeed. Of all the various interpretations of the Bisley grips I've seen over the years, Ruger's is the best, in my opinion.

Slick looking Ruger forty. Shooting looks fine to me. Heading to the desert next Wed to empty some .45 Colt cases. And the 39A!

Thanks NCG! Had that holster rig for about 9 years or so and have two holsters for the belt...one for 5 1/2 and 7 1/2 inch revolvers.North Country Gal wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 8:16 pmThat is one beautiful single action rig, forty, and you shoot that Ruger very well, indeed. It was great getting the Ruger 44 out again.

Thanks Rifletom! Enjoyed the afternoon with the ol' Ruger Flat Top 44! I should have called it by that name. Hope you enjoy some good shooting next week and I'm flat out of those .45 MB bullets but have an order coming soon.

Thanks for the video Forty. Always good to see the Forty shooting range. Nice shooting my Rugers have dust on them. Just haven’t had them out for a while.

very nice indeed .... I've been doing some point shooting with our Bond derringer using both the 357 & 44 barrels .... to put it mildly, its the hardest handgun I've ever tried to point shoot .... to put it bluntly, I'm terrible ..

Maybe a combination of the way you have to pull the trigger downward and the grip?

I just noticed that character standing in the shadows on the porch in that 3rd picture and I left my gun hanging on the post !

If you look closely, you can see that MB bullet inflight a couple of feet in front of the shooter. The bullet makes a nice arc to the target. I like your rig. Nice grips on that Ruger. Original?

Played that scene back couple times and yes I did see that. Thanks for pointing that out! The grips are the original Rugers which I did a little work on to center them up a bit better.

I'd be most pleased to have any and every excuse to fall back on .... one factor that I've noticed is the very different impact points of the two barrels .... not knowing which will fire when the trigger is pulled complicates thingsfortyshooter wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 11:21 amMaybe a combination of the way you have to pull the trigger downward and the grip?

Here this might help.... Hickok45 trying the Bond derringer and explains how he sets up the chamber to fire at around 10:30 mark.JEBar wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 8:22 pmI'd be most pleased to have any and every excuse to fall back on .... one factor that I've noticed is the very different impact points of the two barrels .... not knowing which will fire when the trigger is pulled complicates thingsfortyshooter wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 11:21 amMaybe a combination of the way you have to pull the trigger downward and the grip?

Re: Just some point shooting fun with the Ruger BH 44 Special.
thanks for the link, I enjoyed the video .... taking aim at 5' or so, I'm not good but ain't real bad either .... when I know which barrel is going to fire, at 10' or so, I usually come reasonably close .... when I don't know, on a body silhouette target I aim at center mass (AKA belly button) .... from the top barrel the bullet will hit in the area around the heart .... from the bottom barrel will the bullet will hit in a much more private area ..
...I haven't figured out how to focus when point shooting

That was a great video forty. I enjoyed it. Nice point shooting.
Your photograph composition is very nice too. I hadn't seen the forum before I saw your video. I really like the hat and the rig photographs. .44 special is a very nice round in my opinion. I enjoy it in my Smith and Wesson's. Your Ruger looks great. Thanks for the photographs and video.

Re: Just some point shooting fun with the Ruger BH 44 Special.
the first 2/3 of this video shows the difference in impact points between the upper and lower barrels at short distances .... it also shows how one can learn to aim and fire with decent results at 7 or so yards ....
