Single shot 44
Does anyone have any knowledge of factory load accuracy and hand load. I've been trying some factory stuff and some hand loads but grouping is not all that good.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Single shot 44
some factory ammo comes with a velocity statement but I don't recall any providing powder and charge info .... we hand load all of our ammo and have never had an issue fine tuning to get the best load for each individual rifle or handgun

Re: Single shot 44
Ditto what Jim said. Sometimes a takes a while to find THE load.
Re: Single shot 44
I do not own a 44 but I have good luck with most of the major makers with their top of the line loads in .357. What type of groups are you talking about?

Re: Single shot 44
Just curious but does the single shot .44 suffer same rifling issues as the lever rifles in .44 Mag?
Re: Single shot 44
Can you give us a clue on what handloads you have been trying

Re: Single shot 44
in thinking about it, we first started loading 23.8 grains of W296 back in the mid 1960's with the same about of H110 at times we couldn't get 296 .... with those loads pushing Nosler 240 grain JHP's we have taken black bear, boar, and deer .... they hit hard .... they have performed well in 3 different revolvers and in both Henry and Ruger rifles
Re: Single shot 44
Right now I'm loading 25.5gr. of 2400 with 200gr. XTP HP. And for factory loads I have Winchester 240gr. JSP. Hornady 240 HP XTP (Haven't tried yet) Fiocci and Blazer mainly for plinking.
There is no real grouping just kind of all over the place. I had a load for my Red Hawk back in the late 80's that was good to 100 yds. but I lost it after I traded it. Now I have it back and have my Henry so I'm back to square one I guess.
Thanks for any help on this I'm sure I will get it.

Have you considered that your accuracy problems may not be the loads you are using.brianpa wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 8:58 pmRight now I'm loading 25.5gr. of 2400 with 200gr. XTP HP. I guess my new Nikon scope could be bad. I'll have to check it out.
