August 15th 1820 on the Frontier....

Post by RanchRoper » Sun Aug 15, 2021 3:28 pm

Smoky, 65F and no wind. Shot this target at 50 yds off hand, 50 gr Triple 7, .490 ball, .015 patch. Better than yesterday for sure. I try my best to recreate & live the early 1800's when I can, and hope the pics take you there for a moment. Thanks for lookin'. :)

RR you always do a great job with your 1800's shootin' ! Looks like both rifle and shooter very well dialed in.

Damn nice shooting! They had a BP club at the range today so I was talking it up with them! fun guys and sweet rifles!
This particular one was being shot by a mother/daughter combo. It was their late uncles who was a rifle builder. pics don't do justice...

Looks like a fine rifle. Love the wood. If you like a slower pace and great big holes in whatever you shoot, you'd like it.

What beautiful rifles! I've always loved the graceful beauty of a traditional ML. For me, the closest gun in a cartridge gun has been the traditional falling block single shots.

The history that goes along with these old BP guns is interesting to. Everytime I go to the range I learn something from one of the other shooters who talks about the history of the guns themselves.

RR your attire and shooting are spot on. ;)

KBM that rifle just screams class. The gentleman that put that together was a true craftsman.

If you were to attend those BP shoots a few times and make a few acquaintances I bet there is a few guys there that would let you shoot theres and you could see what you think. They could also probably give you a few pointers on some guns. BP shooters are really a bunch of good people.
