First outing with the Lyman peep.

Post by Vaquero » Tue Jul 20, 2021 8:10 pm

Some of y'all been following and know about the Marlin Cowboy 38-55.
Well I ordered a Lyman tang sight for it, it arrived yesterday and I got to try it this afternoon.
My first endeavor with one, played with it a bit and adjusted it a little, figuring to be high. Well I'm only shooting a hair over 50 here in the yard.πŸ˜‰
Aiming at the lower dot, yep looks to be 8 or 9 inches high.
We gotta start somewhere. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜… I'm satisfied for the first outing.

I need to get mine out and bang away on the buffalo. Was 97 here today. Did my bike ride before it got to hot. Rifletom is sharing the love of the desert.

Tang sight looks good on that lever Randy. You'll get it figured out in no time.
Al, deserts too damn hot right now. Even for a desert rat like me! I'm a loading and waiting for cooler temps. Probably Fall? Oct maybe.
Could try the mountain range.

Quite a bit really. I really should have started at the lowest setting.
Gonna be fun figuring out just how much.

True: got to start somewhere. Windage looks good. Nice looking rifle also!

Nice looking setup Randy. You can easily change the peep disc. I have a globe up front on most of mine with tang sights. The globe inserts can easily be changed too. I like a circle up front for targets and a post for game because it gives a broader field of view.

I do like a tang peep over a receiver peep when I it's possible. That's a great setup, Randy. Hope you don't have to go with a taller front sight, but no big deal if you do. That would be an easy change on the Marlin.

I use that same Marble's on some of my guns, too, but like Gene, I usually match it up with a globe front so I have options on what front sight I want. Here's the setup on a Winchester 1885 Low Wall Classic 22 LR.

It came with two different inserts or apertures. I have the target one on at the moment.
I just wanted to check it out, I will get serious with it on the next outing.

Thanks for the input everyone.
