Forty Shooter Sight insert review
Forty Shooter Sight insert review
Quite some time ago Forty sent me a PM saying he would like to send me a sight insert like he is making for himself out of hacksaw blades. He made the insert and held on to it for a little while during all the backlog of mail and shipping during the pandemic. When I got home from Texas this year he sent it when he bought some bullets from me for his 44. As some of you know from my posts I havent been shooting smokeless guns very much and I have sold quite a few guns. My only Henry in a pistol caliber now is my 41. My 41 shoots very well and I like it alot along with my 357 Single Shot. The light and easy to shoot. I thought I could put the insert into my 22 and try it a couple of weeks ago but the 22 sight is narrower. Today I decided to give it a go and put the insert in the 41. It was hot out there on the Grasslands and my usual spot was to muddy to get into with the Bonneville. I had to locate another area which I did. Here is the first target I shot with it at about 50 yards
I was shooting off the trunk of the Bonneville and using a bag I have for a rest. I can shoot off a bag a little better than this and also this load isnt one I have fine tuned for the 41 in the rifle. Its an Xtreme Bullet 210gr FP and 8 grains of Unique. Might try increasing that some in the future along with loading some test loads of HS-6 and some Universal. After shooting this group I made an insert adjustment and lowered it in the sight bracket. That proved to be a good move as my next shots were lower. I only have this one picture and did some off hand shooting at tin cans. There were plenty around as people dont pick up there targets out there to much which is a shame. I really like this sight insert that Forty made. The hole diameter is perfect for me and easy to see. I was shooting pop cans and pieces of clay pigeons at all ranges and hitting them regular. Im not sure if Forty is going to make these and sell them or what his intentions are but Im definitely liking the one he sent me to review. I know my 41 will be slapping steel with no problem as when I put that gold bead of the front sight in the center of that hole its a done deal. Easy to use. Forty Im sorry it took so long for me to post this and do some shooting with the insert but its a winner with me. I like it alot. Thanks for choosing me to do a review on one.

Re: Forty Shooter Sight insert review
Hey Al.... glad you got a chance to try it out and looks like it works well for you! I just wanted another shooter to try it out since everyone's eye sight is different and what might work for one might not the other. I came up with the idea for something I could just slip in and try to see if it would work and now all my Henry rifles that use that type of rear sight have one. My son has tried it and he likes it as well. I made up a special rear sight for my 1895 Marlin which was way more that a simple blade insert. It seems to work well for getting on target quick much better for old eyes and much better than the typical small V notch sight where I loose the front bead in a blur.
If anyone is interested in this sight send me a PM and I will determine a price.

Looks good Al, it is a good idea that ya came up with Forty.
I started working on one at the daughters last Summer while helping on their remolded.
I left it there and it got trashed, I need a new bench grinder.
As soon as I replace that I'm going to give it another shot.
I believe some similar would work on the Marlin rifles as well.

Re: Forty Shooter Sight insert review
Well just to reiterate Im sold on it for me. When I shot the skinner sights I had to increase the size of the insert for my liking and this one is even better in my opinion. Like Bobby Bare said your the winner
