way to spend an afternoon! The extreme humidity disappeared today, and it was pleasant outside with temp ranging in the upper 70s/low 80s. I went to my friend's home range up north to put my SGC through its paces. Just could not pass up such a rare, nice day this summer! They haven't happened that often.Ammo
Shot 80 rounds today of:
~~Armscor 36gr High Velocity HP
~~Federal 40gr AutoMatch
I had only smooth chambering and shell ejecting of all ammo....not a single glitch, including 13 rounds shot at rapid fire.
Targets -- Distance Shot -- All-around Good Results
We all have off days, I know. But we also have "on days," too. Today was definitely "on" for me. The Henry done me proud and shot its usual top-level accuracy, the bronze Skinner receiver peep only held the targets dead center, and shooting all rounds off hand was the way for me to go. I felt calm and in total control of the carbine. Doesn't always happen that way, but it was really a great feeling!!
Still like to bring along mostly homemade stuff to shoot at.
This 8" splash Dirty Bird target was what I shot first. Stapled it to cardboard, and nailed to a tree. Shot at 25 yards, 30 rounds.
There are 29/30 POIs in the target, and one outlier low, to the left. It's most fun to put those white rings in the red bull!
I still like the challenge, and will keep after these again.Black steel.
One of the positions I shot from today was at 53-55 yards from a target board. I stand on a backyard patio, looking through some trees at the targets. There was a mild breeze rummaging through the trees, cooling both me and the rifle barrel! A day worth repeating.
Always fun to hear that "clang" no matter what distance I shoot. (Every time I shoot black steel, I wish I had a video to show with audio). The steel target I hung today was a 10" x 12" rectangle. Started shooting at 43 yards -- results of 6/10.
Moved back to 53 yards, and shot this distance from the patio through the trees. Results at this distance was 7/12. It's a good view, and I like "missing" the tree branches.
Then I stepped off the patio into the grass, backed up, and shot 15 rounds from 60 yards. Again all shooting was off hand. I was quite happy to hear the black steel ring out 11/15 times!! Didn't go out any farther --- 60 yards was a happy
distance today.Then I do the fun thing with a Henry lever-action. I filled the magazine with 13 rounds, moved in to 25 yards, and shot rapid fire. Another musical melody as I heard that steel tone ring out 13/13! A concerto in .22LR caliber!!
Beautiful day, nice target range, great Henry rifle, and I had fun "80 rounds worth" at the range with my SGC!
