Range Report: different bb’s at 15 feet.

It almost feels like summer. A time when plinking is more important than tearing drywall out. I tested four different bb’s today in the Red Ryder at 15 feet.

I started with the old, and I do mean tarnished old Copperheads and they shot the normal curveball high and right. The Smart Shot BB’s (lead) wouldn’t cycle through the Red Ryder. They just fell out the barrel.

Next up was the Imarex Steel which are silver in color and the most easy to see in flight. They also shot straighter with no curve at the end. The Hornady Black Diamond shot straight like the Umarex but were difficult to see.

I think the Umarex Steel will be the Red Ryder standard from now on.

That's a lot of BBs! Should keep you busy for awhile. Wonder why the lead wouldn't cycle? Could you shoot them single shot?

I think they were too small and just rolled through the rifle.

I get totally lost in plinking. I usually have a good sense of situation awareness. All that goes out the window when I plink. Having the new safety procedures in place helps. I’m no longer thinking about someone walking into the line of fire.

I shot the RR three shots while my coffee was brewing. I hit the gong on the left two out of the three shots offhand at 15 yards. This is fun getting off a few hundred shots a day. Day after day, week after week, and now getting month after month.

That's one of the great advantages of shooting air guns. Even before this latest round of shortages, shooting air guns was cheaper. It's now MUCH cheaper. And nothing beats being able to shoot right at home. Our weather has been downright nasty all week, so I just moved my shooting indoors to the basement.

Not yet. I need to clean out the garage, tear out drywall and pack for Tuesdays camping trip.

I seem to be stuck on more than just an occasional bb shot. The backstop is painted and I’m filling in the base with 3/8 minus and lumber. All the new traps will be down low and I’ll be able to shoot pellets to the side.

This is from the side where we shot. It’s 15 yards from the deck. Other traps will be set out at 10 and 5 yards.
