Range Report: cold and windy

Post by Sir Henry » Tue Apr 06, 2021 4:35 pm

I shot the QB78 this morning. It was 49 degrees when I started and 53 when I called it quits. The wind was blowing left to right at 5 mph tops.

I’m not sure what was happening as I would get a two or three rounds close and then the group would move to the right.

Safety first. I’m so much more relaxed with these signs in place.

My first three rounds. The first two were touching. The third is wide right.

The second group. Almost off the cardboard.

Then it seemed to stabilize although the group was much to big. I’m not that bad at 25 yards benchrest.

Instead of adjusting the scope I changed my point of aim to the left side of a new target.

A new target and new ammo. Couldn’t even hit paper. All shots were low. Still plenty of CO2 left but at this point I’ve been shooting a half hour and the rifle is getting cold from shooting and the ambiance temperature.

I was shooting JSB Match in all but the last target.

I’m going to eat lunch and try again in a few hours. Needless to say it’s been a big disappointment so far.

I put in fresh CO2 and then shot these. It’s 61 degrees and no wind. I got three shots off and then the neighbor came out. Ceasefire. ☹️

I wasn’t really trying my best here. Just wanted to see if it could hit paper. I have not made any adjustments to the scope.

I'd say that the rifle is showing real promise, but, yeah, these low powered airguns can be exasperating at times. I've been shooting the CZ 200T a lot out at 30 yards and have found that it is very susceptible to the wind, given its 500 fps class velocity. The CZ is really designed to be a 10 meter match gun, not a 30 yard gun, of course.

Was out shooting the 2300S the other day, since we had near record warm temps in the 70s. I did okay, but found I had to take plenty of time between shots to get it to shoot at its best.

The rifle is showing promise but I question the shooters ability. I think maybe the wind was more than I thought. It was blowing left to right and the rifle was shooting to the right. In the second shoot there was practically no wind.

I was about to put out a new target and concentrate more when I had to ceasefire.

Probably just a matter of more trigger time, then. That's the beauty of air gunning right home. It's cheap and convenient. Keep on shooting.

Yep. I shoot almost everyday but don’t always post about it. Rain today plus I’m going to Cabela’s to leave some metal and wood and take home some paper.
