45-70 and 45LC outing, again.

Post by T56Impala » Sun Mar 14, 2021 9:50 pm

Picked up some ammo a Georgia Arms yesterday.

45-70
300gr JHP
25 yards
Indoors

Much better than yesterday. Shot high, but put 8 rounds in a 7” group. Yeah, not great, but I’m getting used to Thumper. Figured out what short stroking was. 😒 Tracking shows my scope mount is due Wednesday. Remember, I can’t see sh!t!

.45 LC
200gr cast lead “cowboy” loads
25 yards
Indoors

Dang I love this rifle! Even with my bad eyesight, 49 rounds in 6” circle. Could shoot it all day with these light loads. A real blast! The red/green sights help a lot for me. I haven’t been a fan of the on my pistols, but on this rifle they are great. Tracking shows the scope mount is due tomorrow.

.22lR
40rg lead
25 yards
Indoors
6x24x40 scope
Ruger 10/22

Holes in in holes. Less than 1 inch groupings. 200+ rounds. I am cross eye dominant. I fire this using a tall riser, my left eye and a bipod seated. Magpul stock and cheek riser. Bull barrel. My son and I “compete” with each other with 25 round mags. He is better than I am by far. Holes in holes in holes. Wish I had filed that Form 1 for this thing. Great practice gun.

How loud is the .45-70 indoors? Yep the 45 Colt lever rifles are really fun to shoot. Sounds like you are enjoying the learning curve of the .45-70!

Nice pick up on the ammo, and yes those 45 colts are a hoot.
If the ammo was plentiful, it is a joy that could be enjoyed all day.
I don't own a 45-70, but have a pair of Marlin 444's, and depending on how I load them can be real Thumpers.
But I also have some as they say, are mouse fart loads that are as compfy as the 45 colt.
Glad you got to enjoy, and cool about you and the son's little competition.👍

but I’m getting used to Thumper.
that's good to hear .... I found it better to not try and sight ours in for a scope in a single setting because of the recoil

45/70 & Lead Sled go together like pie & ice cream. Solves the recoil with scope sightings.
I rarely ever buy a rifle, but when I do, it's a Henry.

.45 Colt loads in a lever gun are sooo pleasant to shoot. Really like shooting mine. Both my Henry's are scoped, cuz like you, I can't see diddly without a scope. No .45-70, so no help there. .22 rimfires, love shooting those. Always take one out to the desert when we go shooting. Enjoy those Henry's!
