45-70 outing

Post by Centaur » Mon Mar 15, 2021 3:54 pm

Burned up a box of Remington 300 gr in my new H010B. This rifle is great fun, although a bit tough on the shoulder. Shot all offhand, and hit what I was aiming at. I put on a Skinner barrel mount peep, which needed o adjustment at about 50 yards. Took a couple of shots out to about 200 yards, and the bullet drop is very evident out there.
I would love to have shot it some more, but ammo prices and availability being what it is, I just shot 20 rounds.
A beautiful rifle that seems to perform as good as it looks.

I can understand the shoulder thing. I gave up the big bangers years ago. I found a 45-70 brass on the range awhile back and was reminded of just how big it is.

Congrats to your new .45-70 ! If you reload they can be mild fun plinkers. Even at 1100 FPS a 405 gr chunk of lead will move things around except your shoulder!

Glad to hear you enjoyed your 45/70, knew you would. They are fun, but can be hard on the tissue if shot a lot.
I would suggest reloading, but, what with ? Components are scarce, as you likely know.
I rarely ever buy a rifle, but when I do, it's a Henry.
