Country Smokers Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker
Re: Country Smokers Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker
Food is good and I like not having to use propane to BBQ. I have an external quick connect for a grill but I dont even use it

You are right, Jim. The food is always good. Just have to adjust the times. Thanks.

Re: Country Smokers Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker
interesting experiment .... 36 humid degrees with a biting wind as this is being typed .... fired up our Traveler an hour ago and set it to 275 degrees to smoke some baby back ribs and she's working to maintain 230 degrees .... I have a hunch we are going to burn a record number of pellets today ..

They make more just for that reason Jim

Re: Country Smokers Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker
at the 3 hour mark I brought the ribs in and wrapped them with foil .... just tooooo dang cold to stay outside and do it .... they are cooking and don't look bad at all .... turned up the heat to 300 and put the ribs back into the Traveler .... 2 hours from now they will be unwrapped for the last hour .... it will be interesting to see if that time needs to be extended
Re: Country Smokers Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker
I did 3 miles outside today walking down here. Id give ya a hand if I was there Jim.

Re: Country Smokers Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker
lesson learned --- that being ignore the digital and dial thermometers .... set your temp at your normal temp and let the Traveler do its thing .... the food will be ready in about the usual amount of time

Re: Country Smokers Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker
yesterday I took our right at 2 1/2 year old Traveler smoker out of the camper's basement where it has been in storage for a couple of months or so .... prior to putting it into storage, it was thoroughly cleaned and lubed .... to my surprise, when plugged in and turned on the computer control panel, fans and igniter worked flawlessly but the auger would not turn .... call Country Smoker customer service and outlined the problem ..... the fellow I spoke with was knowledgeable and really good to work with .... he directed me in removing a side panel and switching 2 plug ins .... from that he diagnosed that the auger motor was bad .... he took the required info and said he'd send a replacement along with instructions .... within minutes we got an email confirming the part has been ordered .... once again we've had a problem with our Traveler and once again we couldn't be happier with their customer service after the sale
Re: Country Smokers Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker
I will be curious as to your thoughts when you replace that auger. It looked like it was going to be a fun job to get at the screws in the bottom as the screw heads themselves are bigger than the slots that you can access them thru. At least they were on mine.

interesting .... I've looked at the install instructions and quickly got lost .... when it gets here I'll give it a try and if I can't handle it, they will have to come up with a plan B

Isn’t there a rule where you don’t read directions until all else has failed?

My wife can usually figure it out before I read the directions then I just take orders from her like usual

Re: Country Smokers Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker
well the saga continues but I do feel there is now a small light in the distance at the end of the tunnel .... during the process we've learned a good bit .... first, one of the reasons we purchased our Traveler was its 5 warranty .... the warranty clearly states it covers all grill parts and there is no doubt that Country Smoker is serious about backing their products .... we've learned that the problem is, having a parts warranty isn't worth much if you can't install them .... bottom line, in spite of over the phone conversations with customer service and diagrams with pictures showing removing the OEM auger proved to be all but impossible .... in the end, the cause turned out to be a hard creosote buildup that prevented the auger from moving through its tube .... pictures below show some of the story
