Some cold 45 Colt target fun today............
This morning I made a needed modification to the rear sight on my Rossi Ranch Hand....turned it into a semi ghost ring setup which seems to work much better.
So on a breezy 39F afternoon I went down to the range to try it and my Ruger NV with the original stag grips that were on it when I bought it back in 2010.
First up was the Ranch Hand using the single point sling with some Underwood 850 FPS RN loads. I was chasing my tail with this setup moving the rear sight back and forth trying to get the windage right. Think it was a combination of that Underwood ammo the Ranch Hand didn't like plus I was having bad luck with the sling. So I took the sling off and switched to some of my Xtreme Plated 255 gr. loads with 8.5 Unique and it all came together.
Then I pulled out my Ruger New Vaquero that I had recently taken the wood grips off and put on the Stag type that came with it when I bought it almost 11 yrs. ago. Kind of like those grips again and wanted to see how it would shoot with them as they are a bit thicker. Also switched to my 200 gr. Hornady FTX load of 9.5 Unique. Well now both the Ranch Hand and the Ruger seem to like that load! Later I was hitting the 8 inch plate from 37 yds. standing and with no sling with the Ranch Hand. Like that setup!
The ghost ring mod on the Ranch Hand really makes it easier to get on target now with the brass post type front sight.
Nice combo of the Ranch Hand and the Ruger!

Thanks RR! I had to edit that I was having bad luck with the single point sling for some reason. With my heavy coat on the sling was cramping up my
sighting.

Nice to see you getting out and shooting Forty. Glad you got a chance to try out this setup. I was supposed to shoot a pistol match today, but had to pass. I managed to strain my back on Thursday and it's still acting up today. It's starting to ease tonight, but I figure it will be a few days before I'm active again. Maybe Wednesday I can manage to get out an shoot some.
