New 45-70 X

Post by Ernie » Wed Dec 23, 2020 1:23 pm

Was just at the LGS and they have a 45-70 X model and a box of ammo $750 . Looked at it hard but I really have no use for one and I don't need a purple shoulder.
My 357s arrival is anyones guess so I bought some H110 powder and came home. They have a bunch of large pistol and large rifle primers $7/100 but I don't need any.

Love my 45/70, but it does make the old shoulder feel the impact. 10 rounds is about all I want to shoot out of her. But the 357 I could shoot all day. You will love that 357

Exactly what I was thinking on the H110. There is a local guy who just today put 3k primers on Gunbroker for $750. He very generously offered them to us locals at the same price but no charge for shipping. Grinch!

People like that really tick me off. Just plain greed and he or she has to be into shooting sports or they wouldnt have the primers. Why not help out some fellow shooters instead of the greed.

I can get more H110 powder but have no idea of how to ship it. It costs me $35/ pound. I also have 2000 each of small and large rifle primers I bought before covid that I do not think I will need as I sold all my black rifles. I intend to reload 45 acp, 357 mag and 44 mag. But I have no idea how to ship those either.

Appreciate that thought Ernie, but probably more trouble than it's worth with hazmat & whatnot.
Besides, once you get that 357 you'll be wanting more for yourself
Hope she gets to you soon!

Ernie you can used the small rifle primers in small pistol. The only way they may not work is if you have a tuned. Pistol with a lighter spring. But you could load a few and test them in your 357

I would not use rifle primers in a revolver. They are thicker than pistol primers and could either rub or drag on the recoil shield. When the first round in the cylinder is fired the rest of them could cause trouble. In a single shot handgun no problem. In a semi auto the slide slamming closed could be a concern.
