Check those screws and bolts

Took a 308 Long Ranger deer hunting this year. During the "adventure" the following was discovered on opening morning.

The front sight screw was loose.
The butt stock was loose. That evening, I was carrying my secondary rifle.

Later, I took the butt pad off and using an Allen wrench, I took the stock off and found corrosion on the Allen bolt. No idea how it loosened. I cleaned it up and re-installed the stock and pad tightly.

Lesson learned, again. Check your stuff before going to the field.

Good advice. I find the screws on my revolver tend to loosen a bit after a range trip.

I’ve learned that lesson a thousand times. And I still don’t learn.

Yep...unless it has a locking washer or a thread locking compound it can loosen up. Screw I often find loose on my Henry lever rifles is the trigger/hammer screw.

Yep! As I said in the other thread, I found rifle screws loose, also ,
screws on the rear scope mount were loose. Now I'll have to check zero before hunting season starts this coming Sat.
May have dodged a bullet, ( pun ).

Took the 45/70 back to check zero after tightening the screws on the scope. Sure enough it as off a bit to the right & low.
Got the fixed, back on track. Ready for deer season this Sat.
